40 grands worth of damage to a Warthog by RAF airmen? So what? Wait till it gets to Afghanistan and see what the Taliban might do to it. We need to get these things in perspective.

Andrew Msg 6 - The 40,000 GBP would keep my local library open rather than it's having to close due to governmemnt cut backs - sorry joy-ride and pay the costs (there is no excuse). At this moment when the UK is in trouble along with the rest of the world members of our armed forces (who do a job I do not envy) should try to help us keep them going giving them the best equipment not play with it. By the way how could they damage a tool like a wharthog that should be hard to break?

The Warthog has been developed as a replacement for the lightly armoured "Snatch" Land Rover, which folds like a Coke can when it meets an IED. When the squaddies in the Ghan drive a Warthog over a mine, hopefully they will remain unharmed, but 40,000 pounds will not start to cover the damage. For every one the RAF damage the Taliban will wreck 10.

NCMan. I dubbed him Armoured Personnel Carrier on this board on 6 Dec but he did not pick up the bait. That must be better than "Warthog" ! I hope he was not a REMF

NCMan, My son is a sergeant in the RAF Regiment with several tours of Iraq and the Ghan under his belt, along with several confirmed scalps. Not only is he not a "Guin", hes is also not a "Hat".

NCMan, He has just come back from 6 months in the Ghan (Kandahar) and has been told he won't need to go back for 2 years - hopefully it will be all over (somehow) by then. Thanks for your good wishes.
