As i am unable to afford a truck load of wood, and as it is so cold tonight, i thought i would give a bag of Eco Bricks a chance in my wood burner.

It cost 12TL and took seconds to get going, and 10 minutes later my whole (little) house is sooo toasty my face is bright red!!!

Judging by what i have already used in an hour, i imagine i will use just over half the bag, so it may work out 7TL for a nights heating, and i've cooked the dogs dinner on it as well...may even throw a spud inside for a baked potato dinner later.

What do you think...is this value for money? I'm even watching the telly with a t'shirt on...no jersey or blanket!!

I got them in a sack from the shop across the road from me in Karsiyaka....haven't seen them anywhere else yet.

An added bonus is they smell really really chocolatey...beats a smoke smell anyday!

As an after thought, i thought i should mention that last year i saw lots of 'Eco Bricks' in various supermarkets, they looked like little rolls of dried grass, and looked like they would burn in seconds, so i never even gave them a chance.

The ones i have, are in a large flour type sacks, and look like big rolls of squashed together plywood, with a black coating. On the sack in big red letters it says

EKOPUKETU which i believe is greek....

I couldn't care less where they came from, my house is warm, bordering on hot, and i've manged to cook the dogs dinner and an enormous baked potato..my dogs are so hot they prefer to sit outside!

Personally, i'm thinking they are well worth the value for money....still waiting for other opinions though.

Used them for a good part of last winter when they were on sale in loads of places, Lemar, Bell Foods, Ileli, etc. Have been looking for them again this year, thanks Daisy.

Just bought some at Erdener supermarket on the East side - a bit more expensive at 15tl a bag but hopefully worth it!

Chris, I agree, last night wasn't too cold, but the night before was rather chilly, and a fire was necessary.

I know the UK is cold, what with all that snow and all, but it does get cold here as well, maybe not minus degrees, but enough to warrant a fire, and i must say, it does cosy up the house wonderfully...

My only worry is, now that i've used all the wood at my shop, i'm really not looking forward to lugging 20 kilos around on the dolmus!

Hi DD

They had some in Atakara last year - if they have them now (anyone know?) I'll give you a lift to get some later!

See you soon! Maggie x
