PM Kucuk and minister durust brief journalists on 2011 year of tourism

The TRNC is to be granted favored status by Turkey for 2011 in the field of tourism. Prime Minister Irsen Küçük and the Minister for Tourism, Environment and Culture Kemal Durust held a press conference yesterday to brief the public about the project.

Addressing journalists and tourism sector representatives at the Republic’s Assembly, Prime Minister Küçük said the government was continuing its work aimed at developing tourism in the Republic, adding that the tourism sector was a locomotive sector in the country.

Explaining that a meeting will be held in Ankara on the 27th of December to finalize discussions on tourism, Mr. Küçük said this is where Turkey will grant favored status to the TRNC in the field of tourism for next year.



Noting that the European Union has failed to keep the promises it gave to the Turks of Cyprus following the 2004 referendum, resulting in the continuation of the international isolation of the TRNC, Mr. Küçük said the Cyprus Turkish people did not deserve these isolations, describing the situation as saddening.
