My favourite Carol is:

In the Bleak Mid Winter

Last verse :

What can I give him

Poor as I am

If I were a shepherd

I would bring a lamb

If I were a wiseman

I would do my part

Yet what can I give him

Give him my heart

Silent night! holy night!

All is calm all is bright

round yon virgin mother and child

Holy infant so tender and mild

sleep in heavenly peace!

Silent night! holy night!

Shepherds quake at the sight

glories stream from heaven afar

heavenly hosts sing Alleluia

Christ the Saviour is born!

Silent night! holy night!

Son of God love's pure light

radiant beams from thy holy face

with the dawn of redeeming grace,

Jesus, Lord at thy birth.

Once in royal David's city

Stood a lowly cattle shed,

Where a mother laid her baby

In a manger for His bed:

Mary was that mother mild,

Jesus Christ her little child.

He came down to earth from heaven,

Who is God and Lord of all,

And His shelter was a stable,

And His cradle was a stall;

With the poor, and mean, and lowly,

Lived on earth our Saviour Holy.

Jakki, I agree, the words are beautiful.

I do so love to hear children singing 'Away in a manger, (big breath), no crib for a bed (huge breath), it makes me smile but want to cry also.

I took my daughter to church years ago to a midnight Carol service hopefully trying to entice her to attending church regulary. No such luck, I don't know what the vicar was trying to achieve, but we'd have had more fun at a funeral, even I didn't recognise any of the hymns. The church was packed with youngsters, but the atmosphere was very grey. Shame really, as a good service could have encouraged them to attend more often.

Good King Wenceslas

Last looked out

On the feast of Stephen

When the snow lay round about

Deep and crisp and even

Brighty shone the moon that night

Though the frost was c r u e l

When a poor man came in sight

Gathering winter f u e l

This is one of my other favourites.

Na, definately not a Carol, but a lovely 'pop song'.

Think about it, it is Christmas every day, if you're healthy, happy, what more can you want really.

You have clean water, fresh air, think about the poor families in other countries that are living on rice,

living with the fear of aids and goodness knows what other diseases.

Not forgetting the poor boys in Afganistan etc that are fighting for what?

Flowerfairy,

For me as well 'Away in a Manger' one of the loveliest Christmas carols with children singing it.

Chris

p.s. me singing any song at Christmas would make anyone cry in fact me singing anytime makes people cry with laughter!!

O Holy Night, The Stars are brightly shining,

It is the night of the dear Saviours birth,

Long lay the world in sin and error pining,

Till He appeared and the Spirit felt its worth,

A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,

For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn,

Fall on your knees! Oh hear the angels voices,

O Night Divine, the night that Christ was born,

O night O Holy , O Night Divine !

I like Pavarotti version best !
