I went today to buy the last presents with my friend for the SOS childrens gifts and party, as we were so low. On the way back I saw a beautiful dog being dumped from a car. This lovely dog who looked well kept chased and chased until he reached the link by alsancak as the owner whatever turned there, he took the new bypass knowinging that dog couldnt. Why cant you cowards take them up the mountain. You know in your heart that will be dead today. You are such cowards and evil. How can YOU x

I nearly knocked a poor dog over this evening. I was driving towards the bypass and a black dog ran out in the road outside Ileli. It was limping slightly so I wonder if it had been clipped by a car. The poor thing. I had to slam on my brakes, Efes went slamming into the back of my seat.

Did you see the car number plate or make Lilli? These cowards, these emotionally bankrupt people, should be named and shamed........poor animal, must be scared out of its wits - shocked, stunned and have no idea how in the morning it could be given (probably) a cuddle and food, then slung out, like rubbish........

It is all out of your control what these people do and how they behave...You do your very best when you can,but when you are unable you have to except that you are unable to help them all. Speak soon and see you at the lunch..I have a few gifts for teenage girls to give. Spider,X |

The level of Animal cruelty/abuse is reaching a point where it is becoming emotionally distressing to venture out. Yet many here either don't see it, or ignore it.....It is disgraceful behaviour and there is NO excuse ....Nothing can be done to eradicate cultural failings without strict and enforced Law's .........Unfortunately here in TRNC animals are treated as nonentities ..........

They haven't been round, Laurence just took him to the vet for a puppy check this morning, and he seems healthy although under nourished, he is adorable, looks like we will have to keep him unless someone is looking for a beautiful puppy.

Message 10 Nothing can be done to eradicate cultural failings. cultural failings?????? My neighbours (both Turkish Cypriots) were driving along the road and they saw a tiny puppy only a few weeks old left on the roadside and when they looked closer they thought it was ill and starved. They took it home and they have cared for it and it is now up to full strength. It must only be about 8 - 10 weeks old now. They cannot keep it as they both work and already have a dog. The puppy sits at the gate watching the world go by. He is nervous of people and I already have the other dog coming over for visits to play with my dogs, recently the little one came too. He is black and white an sooooooooooo cute, but he needs a home now as they cannot keep it any longer. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE can someone give this little darling a home?? ring

I've just moved here and, although I've never been a dog owner myself, seeing all these stray, dumped dogs out on the street is hard to deal with. There's a beautiful, friendly white Lab-type dog that follows me on my way to work every day. It's heartbreaking. I'm not allowed pets in my apartment, though, and what would I do with the poor mutt when I travel back to the UK, as will often be the case? There isn't much dog-lovers can do, except make donations to KAR to help them keep up the good work.

Nicky the advise people tell me is to wear blinkers but its hard when i find dogs tied to a chair outside my restaurant constantly. We had the 44 bash today a a beautiful one crossed the road and came and sat on our step. he was as cute as anything, so amusing. had us all in stiches. even walked into the restaurant and went around to everyone. He has been loved and left i guess. If I hadnt already got the beautiful tess which im desperate to find a home for, I would have taken him in. i feel more sorry for the ones who have been taken in, loved and left to fend on the streets.i break my heart daily and even though i get the advise i cant ignore what is happening x

It's gutting, isn't it? There are good and bad points everywhere you go and, sadly for the TRNC, the treatment of animals here seems to be a major bad one for animal-lovers. I know this sounds well silly, but this is what I do - if I try to give one dog a little bit of regular attention (but then you have to be careful they don't "adopt" you!) - a pat on the head or a biscuit or something - then at least it might feel loved for a short while each day. God, that sounds sooo patronising towards the dogs! That's how I'm trying to look at it anyhow. But I've only been here for two months, so I'm sure the injustice of it will soon start wearing me down too. I'm going to try to talk my dad (who lives in the UK) into adopting one when he comes over! Depending on my circumstances later down the line, I would love to take in an abandoned dog. What is it about us Brits, eh? We're suckers for those puppy-dog eyes! Take it easy, Lilli X

msg 23 Is not that lilli poisoning is happening only in hunting season around villages, for hunting dogs............very very sad but the law is straight here all the owners must have papers for their dogs and a micro chip (under the skin) and also they must neuter the dogs if not for breading .

Lilli I know how you exactly feel! I feel the same. I carry dog food in the car with me just in case i see a dog in a terrible situation, I stop to feed them!! I wish we had the power to protect all these poor souls, but we can still do little by little.

If more was done for KAR maybe they could do more for the dogs. I took a street dog in (a pointer about 15 mths) and she has been a wonderful pet since the day she came and she gets on really well with our 12yr old Springer Spaniel (even if he is being old and cantakerous - Just like Dad)

oh hildy you know how it is here, KAR can cope but only just as the get so inundated, there are so many now. Like oceana I carry everything and go looking for the poor souls. Tonight I went to work crying my eyes out as a kitten had been killed on the road by our house, then got there and a customer was waiting and he saw a dead dog on the new road. sad times, still trying to find a home for the beautiful tessie x

Sadly we cannot do anything about the ones lying on the roadside, but we can do something about the ones which are alive and kicking and wandering the streets. This Turkish Cypriot family have cared for this puppy which they found on the street in need of care and attention and they have saved the dog, but they cannot keep it. It is here with me now, comes to visit with his big mate - they come over and knock on my gate to come and play with my dogs. I am doing some training with them so that if it is re-homed it will hopfully have some skills. If someone take it I will happily train it and them in basic dog obedience.
