September: Minister visit to rescue centre

Minister for the Environment and natural resources Mustafa Gokmen paid a visit to the KAR Animal Rescue Centre on Monday September 1st. Mr. Gokman and President of the Green Action group Dogan Sahir was talking with Chairperson Margaret Ray while staff, committee members and newspaper reporters look on.

It is hoped that Kyrenia Animal Rescue can, with the help of the Green Action Group and the Minister for the Environment, force changes to be made to the laws relating to the purchase and laying down of poisons. Plans are also being made to take animal welfare education to local schools. Volunteers will be working with members of the Ministry staff to see how this can best be achieved.

Well done to KAR I say.

Can you imagine the even worse suffering if KAR were not here....doesn't bear thinking about.

Have to agree with fire starter in regards to dog ownership and that includes the brits.

How many people know that you have to have a dog licence here in TRNC?

There has been many a thread on how the government target the Brits when it comes to fines and there was one couple who were fined 1,000 YTL for not having one when when an official turned up at their property to investigate a complaint regarding their dog.

they only do this to brits. when a neighbours son got drunk and threw his dog over our wall to fight with our dogs, we complained to the police. they just laughed. his dog didn't though as our giant schnauzer intercepted it and gave it what for. i felt sorry for his dog.i'm sure he gave it a beating when it got home as well. now we have installed railings which are about 8 foot high so that this can't happen again. even the police don't care about animals its ingrained in cypriot society.
