The sea temp' is sometimes OK. I saw a piece of wasteland yesterday with hardly any rubbish. Most stray dogs get killed before they suffer too much. The Government is better than Myanmar. Build quality of houses is excellent compared to Soweto. The legal system here is more humane than Iran.

The ambience of the mountains, sea and sky. The ability to fully chill in such a short time. Shorts and flip flops and no need for a watch. The people and the enjoyment of eating out. Still not pefect to everyones liking but it is like the mediteranean many years ago.

The weather, the sea, the freshness of the food, the sense of community amongst the locals. The feeling of relaxation, of being out of the UK rut, and most of all, the time to appreciate my wonderful wife. TonyE

andy every one is thats what hurts some i guess, i have never been in a country where i have met some many lovely people, but as bill points out on another thread whom do we live amongst, tcs or Turkish. I have Pakistan waiters, more loyal or kind i defy you to find, they have grown up with the culture here apart from one, but the loveliest people ever. I take the British papers in each day and they pick them up and say to me madame why do they think we are all terrorists, you love me help me understand. The only way i say is I'm Irish and they thought the same about us, we are here together you are my family, we love you and this will go on but good people know the difference xxxxxxx

We love everything - people, the mountain views, the splendid sunsets over the sea and my husband would say the effes as well. Also the simple lifestyle - they have not, as yet, become corrupted by the money-focused, tourist-oriented attitudes found in Southern Cyprus and many other Mediterranean countries.

I probably echo most of the above, the scenery, weather, food, local people etc, but would also add to that list the lovely ex-pats that I have also met - through work and socially. Happy Christmas to all!!!

The trips to the shops which should take 15 minutes but often take an hour or more as everybody is willing to smile and wave, ex pats and locals alike, stop in the sunshine, engage in conversation, regarding the welfare of each other, whether you know each other or not ! Sheer friendliness. Also learning to keep life's little problems in perspective and only worry about what really is important. For example, in 50 years of motoring worldwide I can vividly remember the anxiety and drama of some 3 tyre punctures. In 7 years here I have had dozens of punctures and simply get them fixed for less than 5 TL and enjoy the banter at the garage when the "problem" becomes "no problem" in a matter of minutes.
