Am trying to download Flash Player in order to open an Advent Calendar, but when at the end of the installation it says download complete it is not in the list of programs, and the calendar will not open. I have run an uninstaller to make sure an older version is not loaded but that made no difference. I tried a manual download but that did not work. Anyone any ideas what the problem is?

Maybe double check that your computer specifications match or better the specs needed to download the software. If your computer isn't high-spec enough, usually Adobe products just don't run at all, rather than helpfully producing a pop-up window to explain what the problem is. I've had that issue several times in the past. Good luck.

Yes, have gone to Downloads folder and clicked on it, says installing it and 10 seconds later, which seems a bit quick, it says installation complete. Specs should be OK because I have had a previous versions loaded.

Hi Southcoaster,

Are you using Google Chrome on Windows 7?

Assumed you were updating an existing version. Sorry if my above was not helpful

Hi Navek, I have Windows XP and use Firefox. I also downloaded on Internet Explorer with the same result: an apparent successful download but nothing in the list of programs. Looked on one of the computer forums and it appears version 10.1 of FP is causing problems for some people, but suggested solutions are a bit too techie because I am not sure of any other consequences that might result.

Hi Southcoaster,

I've had the same problem, but with Windows 7 using Google Chrome 9.0.597.19 beta,

If I go into the start menu and click on all programs,

Then select the basic IExplorer, that seems work for me, when I can't open some files.

Hope this helps.

Still think XP is better than Windows 7, nothing but problems :-(

Navek

Hi Navek, problem solved - by my 12 year-old granddaughter! Oh shame. Flash Player was installed correctly but presumably an Adobe fault stopped it showing in All Programs. The Advent Calendar did not work because I should have maximised the logo and then clicked on it. I think youngsters growing up with technology can think outside the box to solve problems better than I can. Next time I have a computer problem I know where to go first! Thanks for your suggestions. Glad I have not moved to Windows 7.

RE msg 10, Southcoaster: (...) Glad I have not moved to Windows 7. (...)

▶ As a Mac user I don't like any version of Windows. But I must admit that Windows 7 on a modern computer is the best version I've seen - it's installed on my wife's laptop and runs smoothly. Another advantage: new or updated software can usually be installed without problems. With old Windows XP you'll find out that sooner or later new or updated software will not run.

Yes Hans, I realise I will have to move to Windows 7 at some point, but you are much more technically able than I am. I am putting it off because I know I will need to spend some time getting used to it, and at present I have a very time-consuming job doing research for conservation. However, I do have a 12 year-old expert who will help me when I make the upgrade.
