Snow update - runways remain closed.

Heathrow Airport will remain closed for the rest of the day for arrivals and departures.

There are likely to be significant knock-on delays tomorrow

and you should contact your airline before travelling to the airport.

We will provide regular updates on this site and you can also keep up-to-date

by following us on Twitter or receive flight updates by SMS.

Cheers Navek - will try to keep up-to-date with the link you have provided.

It's not so much the airport that worries me (I'm sure they'll sort it out) but the bloody roads leading to the airport.

Thanks again.

Hi Jeannie,

We had a family member leaving from Heathrow today.

On Sky news it was saying the airport was closed,

but on their departures web page the flight was still scheduled?

Lack of info until I found the page above.

Family member now tucked up in an hotel bed for the night,

not sure when they will fly out :-(

Thanks Navek - great minds must think alike! Whilst we have little snow here in East Anglia, the roads, as you probably know, in London and the South East are pretty treacherous. This is our main concern. So.... what we have more or less decided is to keep an eye on your very helpful link, along with our local news, and, if the worse comes to the worse, come Thursday, we will travel down to Heathrow and spend the night in an hotel (even though our flight is not due out until 10.00pm on Friday.) This is really just our luck. We have threatened to go away for I don't know how long over Christmas and we have finally taken the plunge to travel to the other side of the world - ah, well - there you go. I'm sure we've got a bit of beef in the freezer

Thanks again and all the the very best for Christmas and the New Year.

Actually Navek your family member (our daughter) was stuck in the Airport with little or no food or drink and nowhere to sleep because they declared the airport 'snowed-in'. The hotel they were to be ferried to was 1.5 hours away from the airport by coach! How daft is that? A three hour round trip to get back for a flight...

Oh I hope all your families get over!! You know I was in UK, Glasgow to Stansted to NC a few days ago. They have known in advance about this and the previous 2 snow falls, and STILL chaos reigns!!!! Mind you, I luckily missed all the chaos, only to then touchdown in Istanbul, WHERE IT WAS SNOWING !!!

Hi Groucho,

Sounds like nobody knows what to do.

Roads blocked, passengers won't be able to get to/from airport at the moment.

More snow forecast for Monday too.

Doesn't look good for air travelers at all :-(

Good luck to them.

Severe weather conditions.

Heathrow Airport will be open and operating a limited schedule of arrivals and departures today, but we expect further cancellations and delays in the coming days, as airlines move diverted aircraft and crew back to their normal positions and we continue to manage the impacts of the poor weather over the weekend and in the days ahead.

A Cyprus Airways flight from Larnaca was one of the first to arrive at Terminal 1 this morning at 0745. That plane was due to leave at 0945 and an extra flight, stranded since Saturday morning, was due to leave at 0800. The latter flight left at around 1215 and the former left at 1606 with our daughter on it, we are relieved to say. Due to arrive in Larnaca at 2200 tonight, it will be the end of a 58 hour nightmare for us. She was one of the lucky ones, not only because there was a flight going to Larnaca but to get a seat on a flight that she didn't have a confirmed reservation for. It's been a very unpleasant experience for an 18 year old travelling alone.

Unfortunately, there are going to be many passengers spending several days, and possibly Christmas, in and around Heathrow.
