Went to the Lodge last night expecting to see Barry Snakes but he was not there. Very disappointing having made arrangements and gone out of our way to see him play only to find that it was a no show. I was not alone!

The NEW owner cancelled the "GIG" ,but not until Snakes turned up to set up his GEAR....Very unprofessional on the part of the new owner..and no fault of Snakes...Snakes posted the Cancellation on Cy44 as soon as he got home..

Remember there are always two sides to a story - we arrived 23:00ish expecting to finish off Saturday night with a rock but were told the Lodge had no bookings therefore no Barry due to a concert in town having a huge following but I said on Cyprus 44 2 birthday parties. They said none were booked. Unfortunately I believe people do not entertain for free so I can see it from both sides. How in this day and age can you make a living if nobody is going to turn up and the entertainers take a full fee. I have felt in the past yes it is very unprofessional but I can see it from the business's side too but also it must be hard for the entertainers to earn a living being cancelled at short notice and I hope over the winter months entertainers and owners come to a happy medium or there will be lots of disappointed people. The smoking ban has already hit them hard, the recession too and now cancellation of entertainers people will think hard before they go out.

Msg 4 there are not many places Snakes performs that are not packed to the rafters. he is the best entertainer on the island, and always stays on stage till very late. So if Barry says they have renaged on the previous owners booking, you take that as read. My only regret is there are not many places West side that can accomodate him.

seven customers hardly sounds packed to the rafters especially for a 20:30 start - were they drinkers or diners? Msg 5 i was not knocking Barry I was stating a cold fact, no bookings How can they justify the cost in todays financial climate unless there is an understanding between entertainer and owner. Lots of owners cancel their entertainers at short notice not just the new owner of The Lodge whoever he is which must be terrible for people who travel miles to listen to them. But hey ho I for one would think twice about paying an entrance fee or increased drink prices on a weekly basis therefore i will put up with the cancellations.

The point is... if they'd let the gig go ahead they would have been packed to the rafters... as all Barry's gigs are well attended. As it is the word got around that the gig was off and the crowd stayed away.

I must get on this list as I stated in my first post i got there at 23:00 and nobody had told me it was off - I was told by at least three owners as we did our normal saturday trawl to see which place was beating they were empty because Barry was down the Lodge so we were most shocked when we turned up. Lucky the lodge is near home.

snd1966 message 4/7/9 ! sorry to hear of your disappointment and apologise for the inconvenience however I too was very disappointed. As most know I really enjoy playing and was quite shocked to find that the person who booked me approx a month ago had sold The Lodge and when I turned up at 2pm to set up and sound check (after loading heavy eqiupment from our basement etc) I met the new owner who told me he knew nothing of the aggreement and wasnt prepared to proceed.(neither the old or new owner contacted me to inform me of this despite both having my number) we parted company on a friendly basis yet gutted as I knew of many people travelling distances to support my concert.(even someone who had just flown in from Thailand) I went straight home and posted the cancellation hoping people would see it and text as many people as I could to avoid this situation. I had been working on lots of new material for this concert and had put in many hours of rehearsals. Very sorry again regards B

MartinD41/Groucho/Topten, Thank you for your kind words and support ! I have never cancelled a gig in my entire career some 40 odd years ! it felt awful and as Mrs snakes will confirm I was not very much fun to be with that evening !!! cheers Barry
