Did you spend it at home, or go out somewhere? Whichever you done, what were the good and bad points?

I don't miss all the Christmas hype for 3 months in the run up to Christmas, but I do miss the Christmas atmosphere actually on Christmas Day.

We spent a really lovely day with fabulous atmosphere and food at The Cross Lanes Hotel - which is just outside Wrexham with the mother-in-law and our son and his wife.

Our son told us that we are to be grandparents in August....life doesn't get better!!!

How I miss carol singing around the streets; in the village square; at wonderful Carol Services with choirs in red robes under sparkling trees. I miss the friendly neighbours to come in and share a drink and a mince pie. I miss the children and their excitement. I miss the participation in lunches for the homeless or those who have nothing;I miss the true spirit of Christmas - but then Cyprus is NOT a Christian country, and as there are no close family or friends here, it is not possible to celebrate Christmas like 'the good old days'.

'Each to their own' and the trhings that matter to me are not here, but that is a cost one has to bear when one makes a choice.

But it is my fervant hope that the message of Christmas will be effective both sides of the Green Line and that it may pervade the negotiations and that the Cyprus problem will cease to exist. Now that would really make my Christmas, even if a little late.

Maz I loved your postcard vision of Christmas over here.

The carol singing - or running round to friends didn't happen...'cos it was far too bloody freezing cold to move!

The icy pavements are treacherous, roads blocked with snow...brrr... Impossible to go anywhere...

At home in Essex - without my daughter (she didn't want to come!!) - my son had swine flu - relations from Paris and Brusssels couldn't make it because of the weather so over shopped - Boxing Day had a lovely walk in the woods with my beloved and our dog - it was realy beautiful, sunny skies and snow still on the ground - all lovely until I fell over and landed on my big butt!!

Happy New Year!!!

Had a great day at home with family and friends, with turkey and all the trimmings and a large log fire. We watched DVD's afterwards with a few drinkies. Peter Kay x 2 was a good start, Tommy Cooper was hilarious, then lots of other older funnies including a very old 'some mothers do ave em' with a very young Michael Crawford. In addition to the fun and jokes provided by the company.

Couldn't have wished for a better christmas.

Hey Blackbird - I was talking about the PAST. I realise this year I definitely had the warmer option! So that is something to be glad about! Sorry for you - and for all those who did not have/could not afford the log fire and hot homes, and also for those trapped into solitude because they couldn't get out and others could not get to them.

But there is always New Year and hope!

Spent 3 days at The Merit hotel and had a fab time. Food, service, rooms all excellent. Perhaps Christmas Day evening meal not up to scratch but that apart great value for money. The interesting thing though was that we only met one other couple from North Cyprus, most others came from the South. Reason, far better value for their money, better service and they prefer the local people.Another interesting comment that many of them told us was that they have the same problems in the South ie dodgy builders,advocats/estate agents, power cuts etc.and generally they reckon the houses are better built here.So all is not as bad here as many of us think.

Ossie, Glad you had a nice time at the Merit. I find it strange that someone from South Cyprus (ROC) can possibly comment on building standards being better here than there if they have no experience of living here.

There were 4 couples from the south that we spent most of the time with and they all have been looking at properties here for some time.Without exception they thought the quality here was better than the south and far better value for money. They came back to our house and although ours is very modest they again would have liked our house rather than theirs.I'm only passing on what I was told.

I spent my Christmas with my family at the Mountain View Hotel. We spent Christmas Eve and Christmas day there as there package was very reasonable. The food to the atmosphere was lovely, and we enjoyed every minute of it. It was our first time away from home which we were quite worried about as we are used to staying in with the kids at home as you do. But we were made to feel like we we're at home, and felt very comfortable. I would definately recommend it, and we are even thinking to go back there next year. Hope everyone else had a lovely xmas and have a great New Year.
