Why do you need a fire grate? All you need is a layer of sand in the bottom & light the fire on that. If using wood the fire can still get plenty of air to burn well. Try it first

We designed our own and took the measurements to a store in Girne (on the way to Lapta, left hand side) next to Astro - sorry I can't remember how much he charged but it wasn't a fortune. Perhaps somebody else could let you have the name of the store (can't remember) - he sells cast iron furniture etc. A really nice guy who spoke perfect English. Hope this helps.

All the stores do is then take it to a metal worker to be made and they put their mark up on top.

Drive round the Karaglanaglu industrial estate, there are a number of metal workers who will make one for you as per your drawing.

Our neighbour needed a new flu plate for his wood burner, took a drawing to one of the metal workers there, new one, much heavier duty than the old one made in about 3 hours for 100tl, was an exact fit, as per the drawing.

James,

We have never had a fire grate in our fire and we have been using it now for 6 years no problem. Only thing we did was have a fixed ornamental piece of wrought iron made to stop the logs rolling out and it works a treat.

good idea Nursey, also your way there is less draft through the logs so they will burn much longer.

Incidentally, well worth considering a log burner, we had one put in about 3 years ago, and I thought it was an expensive item, however, we burn at less than half that of our neighbours when they lite their fire, so working out on the log savings, I estimate our log burner is now free, but still saving a lot of logs.

msg 9, that was Fiskos, it's now a cafe. If you're burning wood, DON'T get a grate, it's cheaper to burn 5 tl notes.
