Claire Scholes from Cornwall posted a slanderous and untrue statement on this board regarding Esentepe villa hotel, the following are the facts we leave it up to the board members to make up their own minds: Mr Andy Scholes came over to Cyprus some four weeks ago looking to buy a property, he discovered the hotel just before he went back to the UK, he liked the place so asked if we could put him and his wife up when they returned on the 6th of August, we had only one room available so booked it for them, just prior to their arrival we discovered that the air con was not blowing out cold enough air and we had to get it repaired, the repair man assured us that it would be back on the Monday afternoon, alas it did not arrive so my manager Gengiz telephoned Alkan holiday village and made an arrangement for Mr & Mrs Scholes to stay for two nights and I agreed to pick up the extra cost involved, Mr & Mrs Scholes were to return to the hotel on the Wednesday but they never appeared until Mr Scholes came into the hotel on his last day, blaming me and my staff for not getting in touch with them to tell them the room was ready - we only booked them in for 2 (two) days and we paid the extra cost involved in this. What amazes me is that Mrs Scholes who purports to be a business woman can leave herself open to litigation by making such untrue and slanderous statements which are obviously made out of sheer malice, and how she can possibly make any comments about our business other than her own personal (rather unfortunate) experience is beyond me

Dear (Esentepe villa hotel) Please accept my apologies for any statements made by my Husband that you feel were untrue. He entered this forum to find out from genuine people all about the experiences of N.Cyprus He unfortunately got carried away and posted His feelings, He was wrong, some experiences should perhaps stay personal. Yes my husband did view your establishment and on first impressions felt it would be a place to stay. However I believe that forums like this are not the place to get involved in slanging matches of what was or what was not said or agreed to. We look forward to our next visit, and perhaps that beer that your wife offered to us. Ps. Should there be any further posts could they go direct to my husband. (Andy 1)

We do not feel that they were untrue, we know them to be untrue, the post said we were the dogs body of the owner ! we own the business 100% 'FACT' Frequent power & water failures ? when did North Cyprus not have frequent power and water failures, we along with many other establishments have a generator sufficient for our needs, we have NEVER run out of water 'FACT' Name the four people who said that they said they got ill from the pool, (and I will show you four more liars) or is this more idle gossip picked up from your time spent in other hostelries with a reason to detest our success as it is hurting them in the pocket. I defy you to name one time when our pool was cloudy, or was this more idle gossip from the same sources. Rowdy late night drinking, this also came from the same gossip source I wager ! You know of MANY PEOPLE who only managed one night there, again name them and I will show you many liars, we have indeed had ONE lady who left after one night with us as there was a party of four people who arrived at 2am to book in and they were rather noisy so she went to stay in Alkan holiday village for the rest of her visit. My advice to you and your husband is look before you leap and engage the brain before putting the mouth in gear. ON THIS OCCASION YOUR APOLOGY IS ACCEPTED

Peterpan - I think Louise offered an unreserved apology and you could have accepted it more graciously

Many thanks for pointing this out Susie, but the apology was not unreserved, it was rather more cleverly worded, so I think my response was warranted. I have always tried to help people wherever possible and live by the very simple creed 'do unto others what you would have them do unto you' But this does not mean that I forego the right to defend myself when attacked either verbally or physically. Dusterbruce, power cuts (wheesht man) WE know and accept the frailties of this young sometimes corrupt country and WE know sometimes things go wrong, pity about the intolerance of some others. If someone can let me know if there is an aircon unit out there that is guaranteed not to go wrong I would be pleased to know about it, or maybe I should go on the bulletin boards and castigate the repair company who let me down NO NOT MY SCENE Many thanks all Greg

Mate if indeed what he/she was saying was a load of crap, then try and get the forum admin to remove the thread(use legal reasons if necessary).By responding on a seperate thread it only serves to advertise the bizarre reports the scholes have posted. In your shoes I'd be livid and the bloke(Andy) seems like an idiot to everyone ,but get the post removed and we'll avoid giving them any advice in the future. All the best , Stu

I do believe that I am the person involved in staying only one night of a week booked at the Villa Hotel Esentepe. My name is Beverley Walmsley and I am coming to live in Esentepe, soon. Just to put the record straight, Greg, the party of four may well have arrived at 2.30 am on the Sunday morning but they must have been v e r y quiet. It was your bar clientele causing the problem. I really enjoy a drink amongst company as much as the next person, but.... The fact is that at 01.15 in the morning I went down to the bar to ask; 1) maybe the door to the bar should be closed 2) that perhaps the noise levels could be moderated . Just a thought - a carpet on the marble floor at ground level would help reduce the clacking of elegant high heels on the trot to the toilets! Anyway, I had been woken up at 2315 hrs by the racket (I can only call it that). But arrivals do come in late on Saturday night, I realised. However, in the end I had been kept awake for so long by the noise levels that I went down. It was OK for a party in a public house, but not really acceptable in an hotel in a residential area in which we the expats. are the visitors. I am sure Greg that had you been on the premises you would have agreed with me. But you weren't. You must surely be aware how noisy your late drinkers are when leaving in the early hours - in apparent total disregard for those living nearby. Don't you agree that some restraint in noisy behaviour should be shown to your resident clientele and to your neighbours in this rather nice residential area? I would have thought that, as a business man in TRNC, you would prefer a reputation as an honourable hotelier rather than the owner of a drinking club. As someone heavily engaged in commercial concerns and customer-care throughout my business life and as an ancient lady, I risk sounding like a spoil sport, but would mention that in business one only has once chance to please a customer. Once lost, they are gone for good. By the way, your swimming pool was empty when I stayed in June. Sadly, my longed for dip had to be put 'on hold' until returning whence I had come - Alkan Holday Village - where I had been staying for the previous week. You see, I really had wanted to share equally between the two available hostelries at Esentepe! No favouristism. A planned goodly share. (PS The fabulous pool there was clean, clear and ready for use.)

Angelina, What do u think you are if Peterpan reads this he will be thrilled hisself. you posh sour puss in bed at 11.15 at night and having the cheek to complain about the noise coming from the bar, and dare i suggest u must have been asleep when the people c a m e i n if they were v e r y q u i e t. I was at a special dinner there 3 weeks ago on a Friday night they had music on the terrace and it went off at midnight as per the rules I was told when I asked why, the place was full and everyone was having a great time, residents and locals alike, but the music finished. This is cyprus not a stuck up bit of england, every place has tihngs you dont like, but you dont have to try and change it. We also visit alkans place but till now havent said much about it because didnt feel the need to but it is not all it is cracked up to be, we cant take our kids there because of his short time 2/3 hour visitors to his rooms and i wont talk about the times his pool is out of order supposed for cleaning, and the sundays when you cant get in it for noisy Turkish kids throwing lolipop papers and sticks in the pool another thing i was at the new mercure hotel for the 112 ball and the noise there was very bad, i went to my room at 1.45am but the music and noise went on to after 4.30am but it was ok because well it was for a good cause but i couldnt sleep, o dear. and this is a supposed 5star + place get a life beverley mules walmsley and let this thread close as we all want

Hello, We are not going to keep on replying to these incorrect statements people are continually making. my husband won't answer any more, but to this one I will. Angelina - why do you say that our pool was empty in June when you were here, this is nonsense, Beverley Walmsley was booked into our hotel at the end of April, not June, and yes our pool was empty for maintenance in April but was fully operational from May onwards as can be testified to by many happy guests, please refrain from jumping on the bandwagon and making untrue comments as this is only fanning the flames and everyone suffers as a result, please check your dates and post a retraction

To all Enough is enough To Peterpan I dont know why certain people continue to blatently insult you ! it makes you wonder what their motive is.I for one will not respond to any more of this thread As i imagine the majority of this forum will also. The people who continue to prolong it are small minded miserable people who should take their vacations in isolation so that then they wouldnt feel the need to spoil holiday makers and holiday providers time. I am coming to nc next month and i shall certainly come and visit your hotel and have a drink with you Good luck S

Christ, what are you people trying to do to the livelihoods of a couple trying to run their business. Every business has their faults but you dont have to be completey childish and immature to air them in public. You keep them to yourselves if you are decent enough people - obviously not in this case. Leave them alone.

Sorry Peterpan. My mistake. It wa April. And to all others, if I am spoken of I feel I may give the real facts as to why I bnooked out. My comments regarding selfish expat behaviour in residential areas in foreign lands still applies. One reason for me to choose so late in life to leave England.

I'm a business person too, and I know the sort of damage this kind of thread can do, it's not as it it's going to be used to wrap fish&chips next week (not since the EEC evolved anyway). It's not just damage to a reputation, it's damage to somebody's physical and mental well being when they are trying very hard to do the best they can, and sometimes ending up out of pocket for it, but with no thanks whatsoever, just verbal/typed abuse. Send a letter or an e-mail, get it resolved that way, without undoing probably lots of years of hard work - one bad review can do more damage than 100 satisfied customers - because satisfied customers don't bother saying anything, they are happy. It is heartbreaking when you are working, most of the time, 24 hours a day, to read that sort of posting. This is the TRNC, people visit here because it is 'undeveloped', how lovely, like going back 50 years etc etc - so power cuts, water shortage etc, and OH, Sainsbury's have not arrived, neither have Benettons (so there is a God) are part of it. It's not Disney World. My business is at an early stage, doing just about OK (it's been a bad season by all accounts) but had 2 complaints, from Brits, who want to know why the beer has gone up 1ytl, one erm, 'lady' said "I've been coming here for 12 years, and I know the prices....you are a bit expensive..." ONE 1TL UP!! Not been coming here long enough then to know that there is a new staff wage. Oh, they love the low prices, and they loorve the 'undeveloped' TRNC, but their love does not extend far enough to want the residents/staff here to have a living wage. How much has petrol gone up?? Cheap for us, not for the residents... OK RANT OVER!!

Just to confirm that the Esentepe Hotel along with Greg, Cengiz et al have been very welcoming and accommodating, when ever I have visited what can be described as the best roadside Kaf in Cyprus! If these slanderous people are looking to make friends and influence people then believe me the TRNC is not a good place to go around it.

I have visited many hotels in northern cyprus from the jasmine court to salamis bay mostly the 5 star brigade. I then recently 2 weeks ago stayed in a 4* holiday village called riverside and - 1) they forgot to pick us up at the airport (5 of us inc 3 kids) 2) they gave us a really rubbish room on the 1st night we were there (we had been delayed 5 hours on a CTA flight into Ercan) 3) they had karaoke on loud (not great) HOWEVER they sorted it all out and we had a great time - the staff were friendly, they changed our 'villa' for a proper apartment, the food was good, what can i say I was really pleased. My advice to anyone who has a bad experience at hotels is if you feel that bad don't go back - if riverside had not sorted it all out and had been as well staffed as they were we would have left after night 1 - vote with your feet but just because you have a bad experience then don't try to put them out of business. We all have bad hair days and there are always at least 2 sides to every story.
