First of all happy New Year to all (especially those that were at Charcos last night).

What a great night. Good food, good service, good entertainment, good value for money and most of all Brit expats that I was proud to be in the company of.

Well done Celal and Christina and the rest of the staff for their efforts.

If any of you have not had the pleasure of eating at this restaurant then give it a go. It has a unique atmosphere and Christina's paintings that hang on the wall are incredible.

I see that AJ is again not supporting his adopted village.

Totally agree with AJ. What a super evening. All that food and served leisurely over a long period... perfect. Terrific value for money. And yes, civilised company.

Well done Celal and Christina and of course the staff.

But I didn't win the painting... :-(

Does anyone know who the 'first footer' was. The guy who came in with the bottle of wine and went around all the tables greeting everyone?

Hipps

Happy new year to you and Mrs Hipps.

You should know my interests in the TRNC by now.

It was a 50/50 thing for me and as you may well know that Charcos used to be located in Alsancak.

They moved over the border (only just over the border!) to bigger premises and easier parking. And seeing as there was no other similar offering in Alsancak village then the consensus of opinion from our party was Charcos Lapta. It was a good decision as I could not see the likes of Cyprus Queen (Corner Bar for you) or the Barrel or in fact any other bar/restaurant offering the value for money that Charcos were offering.

45tl for a four course meal with sparkling wine to follow to toast in the new year and coffee and brandy to seal the evening. Traditional folk dancing and a traditional 'first footer' made it one of the best New Years Eve I have ever had. It was fully booked and I know some people were disappointed

in not being able to book a place. It certainly was the place to be.
