Now 6.00 p.m. still off. Essential maintenance maybe? Civilisation maybe. I did have the slow cooker on,

Thank heavens for the Gas stove top!!

Sheer incompetence - surely not. Going off now to save my battery.

Irate, no resigned to the fact, after all this a country fit to join the rest of the world?? A two tiered electricity charging rate and people still having to buy water in because they have no other supply Why ever would I be irate? Oh, I almost forgot, and where a bank can use your house as collatral against someone else's debts.

Nothing to be irate about...........

They were working on the lines outside the big school between 'Ship Inn' and Lemar Supermarket, Karaolanoglu - almost opposite 'Ronnies Furniture'. The power cut lasted about 3 hours before restored. Having it just on lunchtime was slightly inconvenient; so, it just shows that one should not be reliant on electricity alone, but have adequate gas appliance(s) back-up!

Ours was off from 12.15 p.m. till 6.55 p.m. so you were lucky Tenakoutou.

At least now I know why.

If I had know it would be off, I would not have used the slow cooker..............I finished cooking my belly pork on the gas stove.

Not smug but people should prepare themselves for things that they know can happen instead of just moaning about them all the time,

pollymarples; May you have a very long and happy life in Cyprus - you really cheered me up with your sense of humour and the things you wrote! And I am not being sarcastic either. My son heard me laughing to myself and asked if I had gone mad!

On a more serious tone though - I personally love the powercuts in Cyprus. Civilisation or not, it makes life here more interesting and even exciting! I can't imagine anything better than a powercut, when everyone is watching the dreaded soap opera, whilst I am doing acrobatics to attract attention. As soon as there is a power cut, its as if everyone has realised there exists another world around us. A world where one can have social conversations, play games, and don't get distorted with ads every 30 minutes!

The best of all are the candle lights, especially when it is raining outside (like tonight) - and if you have a fireplace - even better! And the good news is, power cuts are always temporary. It's like having a holiday from civilisatio

I like the way you think bigOz but we don't watch much telly in our house, as Chris would say, 'she's on that bl**dy tinternet again, usually researching for the articles, or second favourite 'reading'. Will hope to make you laugh this year too. Just tell your son, 'it's that stupid old woman again'.

Like I said smoggyjim, we do have a generator but reluctant to spend the money having it 'plumbed' in AGAIN.

Spent a lot having it done at K5 AND LOOK WHAT HAPPENED THERE!!!!! Power cut is one thing, locks changed and attempted 'hit and run' another, a little more serious.
