Coachie ... that is sweet ...

I am a Step Parent, with no children of my own. My 'step' grandson calls me by my first name .... as much as I hate this ... I don't know what else to suggest.

He already has a 2 x Grandpa's and 2 x Grandma's on both 'divorced' sides ... I'm the only step parent and therefore no real title...modern life eh? I feel more like an "outlaw "rather than in 'in-law' !

Yeah ... you know what its like ..... thanks for being my Agony Aunt ....

You would have thought by now, the dreadful 'step' would have disappeared. I have looked into it's origins, and its nothing really to do with getting re-married.

Our 2 year old grandson calls my husband Gaa gaa. He can't yet say Grandpa.

Mind you when the two of them are playing together I think that the child has it right in the first instance!

Hi chick a dee,

My husband is in the same position as you and my granchildren call him Grandad Steve and me nan. When they are growing up they don't know anything about ex husbands and wives and only see two people together. My husband loves our grandchildren and takes a great deal of interest in them, even though he has never had any kids of his own.

When my first grandchild began to talk I wanted her to call me 'seanmhair'

Gaelic for grandmother, as I thought it sounded lovely. Then I realised, 'sean'

means 'old'. I am the only grandparent for my 2, and have no role model as

can't remember either gran, and only paternal grampa. So, now I am happy

to be called Gran (or is used to be 'Gwan'. Sounds good to me and I am very lucky.

We are Grandma and Grandpa. The other set are Nannie and Grandad. I love it. When my Mother-in-law was alive, our grandchildren (at her request) called her Gee Gee (short for Great Gran).
