Hello,

Due to moving back to the UK on February 4th at short notice I am in need of finding a home for Missy and Taloula plus a male kitten/cat 8 months old.

Missy is a 9 year old rough collie and she was originally brought over by my parents 5 years ago, unfortunately due to her oldish age it would not be good for her to travel back there and where I am moving to is not suitable for pets.

Taloula is approx 3 years, pure white and i have had her since she was about 6 months old and she is the best cat, she can play fetch and always wants to be nearby you. She has been brought up to be able to go outside but very rarely goes far past the door.

The grey cat is grey and white male and was part of a litter that came in May last year, this cat is more outgoing and gets on well with Taloula although not hers.

I hope someone out there can help and i do have pictures of all 3 that can be sent out or put on here

We have met Missy with our young daughter, she is a lovely placid long haired collie dog ( like Lassie). Hopefully someone can give her a loving home. Tom, Taloula is doing great and enjoying the garden and little JJ is a champion tree-climber now.

What will happen to her if she can't find a home?

Could you find out who finally re-homed Brandy and Lucky from KAR and see if they could all be re united?

I am keeping my fingers (and everything else) crossed that some kind person will take on Missy.

I so wish I could give her a home as I had a rescue rough collie that we adopted from Battersea Dog's Home.

She was 10 years old when we took her and lived to a month off 17 years old.

For anyone who could give her a home....they are the most docile dogs and very loving.

If I hadn't recently taken on a stray puppy to keep my other 2 dog's, 4 cat's (and a cockatiel) company I would not hesitate to offer her a home....but hubby says no more.

Good luck with Missy.

Unfortunately and as hard as it will be if I cant get her homed by the 1st then she will have to be put to sleep. She will not cope with a rescue centre and will need to go straight into a home. Due to her age it would not be wise to travel her back to england.

Sorry to hear that but fully understand it would be for the best for her. I know how much Brandy and Lucky suffered at KAR through pining and bewilderment, even though the staff were wonderful with them.

Hope someone does come forward though, sorry I can't help as we have 3 already and 2 of those are rescue dogs.

Good Luck.

I really hope you are able to find a loving home for Missy. She looks such a lovely girl. We flew our two rough collies to TRNC in 2007 - one was 9 years old and the other 4 years old. Whilst my husband and I were very nervous about it, both dogs coped remarkably well. Would you think to fly Missy to UK if you were able to find a good home for her there? If so, you could try contacting the Rough Collie UK website (I've cut and paste the following from the website "Rough Collie - Rehoming. If you need to rehome your Collie we will do our best to help, please contact Julie on collienetrescue@aol.com or Margaret on collienetrescue7@aol.com. If you prefer to speak to us via telephone, call Margaret on 01691 648126 or Julie on 01384 270762 (between 6pm - 9pm please or anytime on weekends."

We would have taken Missy in a minute but have just taken on another puppy and wouldn't be able to give them all the attention they deserve.

I hope things work out well for you and wish you luck.

Missy did not cope to well with the original trip to Cyprus so it would not be fair to put her through that again, it has been discussed with my step mum and it would just be so much better for her to get a new home.

I wish I could help but I already have 13, have you tried putting up pictures with an appealing note in as many supermarkets and pubs as you can, also as Liz mentioned the vets and maybe even an ad in Cyprus Today. I wish I could help more but wish you the best of luck.

How many threads like this are allowed - home me / him / her /this??

As on a previous / other thread - they are for life - not your whim. No excuses / no crap / the animal desrves better than what is being offered

If Missy was brought back to the UK, would you more than likely find a home for her?

How old is she? could she survive 6 month quarantine?

No she could not be taken back hence I am trying to get her homed here as that would be the best option for her. She was not brought here from the UK on a whim and due to unforeseen circumstances concerning my Dad last year it has come to the point when I as well am going back to the UK.

Please if you are able to help I welcome your comments and all your efforts in helping me find her a home.

Message 52,

It is due to the fact that she will not cope with 6 months quarantine. When she was brought here she was only in for 2 weeks and came out very ill and unhappy.

It would not be fair to put her through that again, plus she is 9 now and been here 5 years or so.

It is a terrible shame and this was not what was planned for her at all but due to the way life is sometimes it cant be helped. After my parents left I took her in as the only other option then was KAR and she will not like that in the slightest as she would need to go straight into a home here, hopefully one can be found before Tuesday next week.

Have you tried advertising her on the other side? Plus any other websites that cover the Island. Also, have you put posters up everywhere with her picture and your contact details - someone driving by may just see it and save her life - not everyone goes onto computers or would hear of her predicament...........

I have mentioned to nearly all the people I know as word of mouth is the best form of advertising, hopefully keeping this near the top gets people talking in a positive way too

Surely someone can take this lovely middle-aged dog.

If I did not go back to the UK for 3 months each summer I would have her but no-one will look after her for that length of time.

But,,,,,,,,,if I had her and I had to leave cyprus she would certainly come with me no matter what!

Even if she were to die in quarantine I would not feel guilty as I would just not have a choice, she would have to come with me.

Thanks for the comments but I would feel much better about her going into a loving home rather than transported back to the UK and spending 6 months miserable, ill and possibly die.

My in laws dog and cats were not miserable in UK quarantine. As I have said before they got into a routine. They were visited and the quarantine staff fussed and loved all of the quarantined animals.

Really it is not such a big hassle as many people seem to think. Yes it's six months to humans but animals have no real conception of time as long as they are warm and fed and watered.

It is an option to consider, Tom.

Good luck, let us know what happens either way please and sorry not to be able to help.

I was under the impression that the vets here would not put a healthy dog to sleep...this is just so sad, back to the top.
