I am one of the more mature members of the board, as my son tells me " you enjoyed the sixties first time round, now it,s your second chance to enjoy them".

Do any of the other mature members have anything that sticks in their mind from years back, although often can,t remember what they did that morning.

Seeing some of the recent posting on the board reminded me of a schoolmistress I once had and her way of dealing with the class idiots. If anyone was brave enough, or foolish, to give her any backchat she would raise one eyebrow and say,

" Are you insinuating that I should tolerate such diabolical insolence from one whose mental capacity is less than that of a fool"

It worked every time, don,t know if it was fear or respect.

Thanks Wyn, you too, we may be part of the grey brigade but we still have a lot of life left in us and could teach some of these youngsters a thing or two about life, and how to live it !!!!!

I was up to me neck in nappies in the sixties so they

kinda passed me by.(was a child bride, hones!)

I did enjoy the music though.

Even my kids think we lived through an age of brilliant

music which lives on.

My daughter's used to think I was really "cool" when I knew all the words to a new release by one of their favourite boy bands....until I told them that it was an "oldie" song sung by whoever!!

Hattikins.....I will always remember my first swear word!!

In the early 70's I went to boarding school and our geography teacher (called Mrs North...very apt!) was always picking on me...can't think why!!

One particular morning during one of her tellings off I lifted the lid of my desk (remember the wood desks with the ink wells?) and whispered "shut up".

There was me thinking Mrs North was slightly deaf...wrong!

I will never, never forget being taken to a bathroom by the head mistress and having my mouth washed out with cold tar(?) soap.

Even thinking about it now brings to the taste back into my mouth....yeuk.

We had a brilliant English teacher who was very traditional, very fair and great fun when the situation was appropriate.

Of course we were taught nouns, verbs, clauses, phrases and many other parts of English language that children today would die if they had to think about.

Our favourite was the following - "please Miss can I open the window"?

Response - "yes you CAN open the window but no, you MAY not"!!!!!!!!!

Miss N. was also Deputy Head, responsible for girls discipline. I am sure many of the ladies will remember!!! After assembly (also long gone) the girls will stay behind. they then had to kneel on the floor and height of skirts was checked!!!!! You know the rest.

She was also very handy with the cane on the rare occasions that she had to use it. You NEVER went back!!!!

Being hit on the hand by a middle aged woman with a

Wooden rule, very painful.

Today probably something I would pay for.

Milk in the break in the morning and school lunches. Mashed potato's using those little scoops and one lady teacher that always carried a pair of leather gloves which she would use freely on hands or legs of any girl being naughty.
