Hi

Friends of mine in Arapkoy have found a young German Shepherd Cross male dog about

6 - 12 months old outside their gate. He was very frightened and thin.

Unfortunately they are unable to keep the dog as their own keep attacking him.

At the present time they are keeping him near their house. He has shelter and regular

food and is starting to look better.

They are desperate to find him a new home. He is a lovely dog friendly and trusting and

would make someone a lovely pet. If anyone can offer him a home please contact :

Brian on 0533 8414248

We have been to see the dog today and have taken a photo of him but I do not know how

to post on here. I would be happy to forward to anyone who is interested in adopting

him by email.

Thanks

Hi guys, I saw this dog when I visited Brian's house recently, so friendly, quiet and scared and so thin, it broke my heart driving away. I understand that the couple cannot take him as their dog is very possessive of her home. I have contacted KAR and asked if they will will take him as the rescue centre is so close and am hoping they will help as it is in their area. I am really sure this dog would make a good family pet for someone. Good luck boy.

Oh delik its all so sad. They all deserve some happiness. I am seeing a little beauty on the road to the house every night I leave work. I just cry as I cant do it anymore. Also a beautiful white persian cat has been coming around the restaurant every night for the past 5 nights. It is beautiful. I leave food down and retreat. The strange thing is if any 4 wheel drives are parked she goes and snifes the wheels of them. She I assume its a she dosent bother with normal cars. If anyone has lost this cat she is around outside the restaurant in alsancak each night from around 7.30pm.

Hi chelle so many come and fall in love with one or two. They want to take them back until the find what it entails.Thats the sad part as the poor animal has been shown love and human emotion, then left or dumped on people like me. Bring blinkers with you and bring some for me, it gets harder not easier xxx

Yes you are right he is a lovely dog and would make someone a lovely pet.

I understand Brian has been in touch with KAR and they are unable to help.

I would hate to think that the poor dog would end up at the center he deserves

the chance of a real life with a good family.

Someone please give this dog a good home.

For those thinking of taking in a stray:

My friends, the Sloans saw a little puppy being dumped on a refuse tip in Girne,in September, about 4 weeks old.

I "adopted"Hunni,she is a Cyprus poodle,and I love her to pieces.

She scares wandering cats from the garden, helps me in the garden,is so full of loving. She sleeps outside.

Her greeting when I open the door in the morning is unbelievable.Hugs, kisses and licks a plenty.

Lillie, will pop in with Hunnie when passing !!!

Please, please,if you are thinking of taking a dog on,if you have any doubt, think of the love Hunni gives me Mike

We have 2 dogs already and can't afford another one - unfortunately as he looks such a sweetheart. We get so much joy and pleasure from our 2 that I couldn't imagine a time without them (though I know it will happen eventually) No matter how down or sad I get I can guarantee that our two will always make me smile, or even laugh out loud. All I can do is bring this back to the top in the hope that it will help find this beautiful boy a good home.

we live next to an empty house in Alsancak. Last Monday a TC drove up and attempted to dump some dogs. My TC neighbour sent him packing, but dumped the dogs in the empty house. A beautiful liver/white Pointer obviously used for hunting and 6 pups. The pups were still suckling - one disappeared the first night. We managed to re-home 2 to TC's and we still have 3 left. They are weaned now. Mam has 'run' for the first time today (after 5 days with food). They sleep outside and lie in the sun during the day. I made Shelter and fed and watered them in the garden. One morning Mam had taken the covers off our gate and was lying inside and her pups were outside. I have a field next to me so I housed them in their. I already have a Pointer who was dumped with 10 puppies and was tagged and put back on the street and she is the most docile, loving creature you could wish to own and this Mum is the same. There is 1 black pup and 2 liver ones left and Mam - all looking for LOVE!!!!!!

Hi delikomsu

Sad to say but the dog is still tied up in a safe place and being fed daily by Brian

KAR can not help at all.

The future looks bleak for this poor dog. Although he is being cared for by Brian he is on his own

most of the time which is no good. He needs to be socialised with people and other dogs.

I hope that someone out there will give this dog a chance and give him the home he deserves.

Thanks for asking

Just a question but why can't KAR help at all? Brian is only 5 mins from the rescue centre and even if they're full which I know they are they could at least neuter it? Am I being unrealistic?

Hi delikomsu

Brian rang KAR and they have said that they do not have the money.

As it is a male dog they will not pay for castration nor will they take it in at the centre.

What else can we do. I already have dogs and can not afford to take another dog on.

I will however be willing to help towards the cost of castration if some wonderful person

will give this dog a home.

Still hoping that someone out there will look at his photo and fall in love.

The Mum and puppies I was left with remained with me for a week as KAR could not take them as they had no room. I was informed that a German Shepherd was going out on Sunday and I could take the dogs in on Monday - that is how tight they are. THEY NEED MONEY

My husband and I drove to the centre and never spoke the whole way or back as it was upsetting. Then they put Mum and her Pups in the pen and the puppies just looked up bewildered - they had had such fun running around. It was heartbreaking having to walk away. Mam will be neutered and put on the street.

Whilst I was there I asked about sponsoring a dog and I arranged to do this. They have a dog in there that I know Elien who is a lovely blond dog and I have sponsored him. I paid £30 up front for the first 3 months and have arranged £10 a month. If more people did this then KAR would be able to do much more and maybe take more dogs. I am a pensioner, but £10 a month is about £2.50 per week - won't break the bank will it!!

HildySmith - I am glad that KAR managed to find room for them. They really are struggling what with ever increasing vet bills/food costs/petrol prices - they have to budget the same as the rest of us but with so many more mouths to feed. I know not everyone agrees with some of their policies but there are many things that can be done to help the dogs without just donating money (if that is what people have a problem with).

Go and walk some of the dogs - they have precious little and so enjoy the treat of being out of their pens for a short while. Any day from 9am to 1pm.

Give some food - there are plenty of food collection boxes in Supermarkets for you to put dog/cat food/pasta etc into.

Donate old bedding/blankets/newspaper to help keep them warm at night.

Hold a fundraising event (in UK there have been kind people who raised money by way of sponsored swims/walks/silences etc and then used the money to buy flea/medical treatments to send over).

Just HELP if you can.

KAR will help to have him neutered - they are just unable to collect Male dogs for neutering themselves until they have caught up with the existing Female list. They also are not able to take any adult dogs into the Centre (except eceptional circumstances) for the time being.

If you are willing to pay a donation ( i can't remember the price but maybe 60TL for male) thay can issue a vet slip for neutering at no further cost to you. You would then make the appt (Petcross) and take him in for them to neuter and they will also tag him as a registered street dog.

We are trying to find time to build another kennel/run here asap and when we do will take him if he is still there, can't bear the thought of the poor boy sitting out in cold and rain now. There is someone in our village wants a G/S male pup but know it would live its life on a chain so not really an option. Please give us update?

I can never understand why people want to buy a dog in Cyprus when there are so many that just need a loving caring owner. It is so sad that people just dump them anywhere. I have a Cyprus poodle who was thrown out of a car at 7 weeks old. She is now 2 years old & I couldn't be without her she is part of the family.

Yes the lovely dog is still there waiting for someone to give him the love that he needs.

If you can offer him a home that will be brilliant.

If this poor soul isn't enough another German Shepherd Cross has been

dumped near Arapkoy. He was spotted on the Mountain Road Tuesday and then in the

village on Wednesday. We spotted him today and he is injured. By the time we went and got water and food

he had disappeared. We searched the area but could not find him. We think that he is laying

low possibly in pain. My friends will be out again looking for him tomorrow.

How can people be so cruel.

Will keep you posted about what is happening.

I wish it was the law in TRNC AND UK, indeed, everywhere - that every dog owner has to have their animal microchipped and also hold a dog licence, renewable annually - if the dog has died or been sold - by law the owners have to let the authorities know, or be fined for not doing so. I also think anyone producing pups should notify authorities beforehand, and a vet be required by law to inform the authorities how many pups are produced (as they must be up to date with jabs before being sold on) as it should also be the law that when the pups are sold, the new owners full details are given (as when one buys and sells cars) to the authorities and they are followed up to ensure the pup is microchipped or again, a fine paid. The dog situation is totally out of control. Anyone found not adhering to such a law, would be heavily fined. Sadly, in this weak, toothless world - it will never happen.

Hi Delikomsu

Unfortunately we can not find this poor dog. It seems to have disappeared.

There are several people looking for him. The local villagers have not

seen him either.

All we can think of is that he went to ground somewhere and died. We

are still looking and if we do find him will let you know.

There is a stray x gsd again a very nice dog that is living outside the

furniture shop on the left hand side of the Catalkoy Road (where the old Little Villa shop was)

before the turning to Esentepe. The lady in the shop says it has been dumped there

and they are feeding it.

Also don't know if it is a stray but yesterday there was a x gsd in

a cage at the Starling supermarket on the right hand side of the road before the turnoff to

Esentepe. It is very thin.

Let me know if your friend is interested and I will see what I can find out for you.

Brian has my contact details.

My husband will look today, he is in town. Thanks

MsGarnet, yes of course in an ideal world this should happen, what appalls me is the complete disinterest the 'authorities' have for animal neglect/abuse here. There is no system in place to deal with any of it. No Government support for Rescue Shelters, no dog wardens and no apparent control for strays.

There is a law that states dogs have to be licenced and registered at the Belediye but I think it's mostly us stupid Brits that bother, most of my TC friends don't.

I refused to pay the dog licences here for the strays we have in the kennels as a matter of principal this year and waited for the heavy hand of the law which as yet has not arrived! Instead our Belediye have been adding these fees sneakily onto our bills each month as arrears, so I have not paid them either. Don't think this will get me anywhere though apart from a bigger bill.

Mrs B. Thanks Phil checked those dogs today. The one next to Starling is owned and although caged does have shelter! The one being fed by the furniture shop has been re-homed to their friend. Phil said these people are dog lovers and feed all the dogs that come their way, nice people!

Hi delikomsu

So sorry that your husband had a wasted journey but so very pleased that the stray has been

re-homed. At least the other dog has shelter and I will go and see him when I go to Starling.

Will let you know if we see the injured dog but to be honest I don't hold out any hope now but

will ask my friends to keep looking.

Hoping to visit him in the near future.

Thanks for posting the photo.
