Check the toilets to see if the overflow is running, especially if it ts the type of toilet that overflows back into the pan.

Have them double check the meter readings,I also had this problem and the meter reader had put the wrong readings onto the billing system.

And maybe suggest to them to turn off at the mains and remove the handle next time they are away for a while.

We had the same problem. At first we thought that our irrigation system had gone haywire, we later found that the tank under the ground had cracked and water was seeping through it.

I've also heard that sometimes the pump pumps air through, this also makes the meter go round.

Who's name is the bill in?

A neighbour of mine ended up with a water bill of 1900Tl for one month.

First of all as it is a holiday home it is unoccupied for long periods of time. As soon as the Belediyesi realised that it was an abnormal bill they came out and turned off the water and sealed it off until the bill was paid. I offered to go and talk to the Belediyese and in doing so found out that her water account was still in the name of the builder and this meant that the rates paid for the different levels of usage were significantly increased. Next the Belediyesi came out and turned the water back on to try and determine what was responsible for the large usage. It transpired that the swimming pool balance tank was being fed from the mains supply and the ballcock had stuck open. This was last winter where the mains supply in Alsancak was almost constant.

Being in the UK my neighbour had to e-mail me a copy of her kocan so that account ownership could be changed. After some interesting debates with Belediyesi they agreed to reduce the bill by 50% and I was also asked to make sure the owner was aware that it is illegal to fill the pool balance tank from the mains supply and can attract a heavy fine. So although the final bill was still relatively high I thinks she was lucky that the Belediyesi made efforts to try and sort the problem out.

Water bill what water bill. The man from the Lapta Belediye comes and reads the meter but I have never found a bill anywhere, so god only knows what he does with it, and I have a letter box.

I think i will suggest meter removal as the garden does not need watering in the winter. Every other possibilty has been looked at and there is nothing leaking. The bill is in her name its the second time its happened in five years.

Hi Linda

We had a large bill in September. We went to the Beidysi but they said we had to pay it. When we had a look at the meter it was swirling round at a rate of knots but we were not using any water!! Turned the water off and back on again (the tap before the meter) and it stopped. Verda at D & B got it reduced for us.

Hi Brenda that was my first thought too but i have checked the meter every day since the bill and its not moved at all. I cannot imagine where 80tonnes of water have gone the garden would be like a lake. I am going to try to badger them again tomorrow.
