scubadoo, I'm not sure how the south works but it has to be easier than the north. You will definately need to leave here (for north) and return to your country of residence, go to the TRNC rep or Turkish Embassy, get translations done, pay money, go to a notor here, pay money, go to the registation office, pay money, then marry within so many minutes and erm, pay more money.

Try the south or better still Sri Lanka!

Try to talk with one of the planners who might be able to give you the advice.

I suspect that you might need to be able to show that you are "unencumbered" and that proof might need to be from the UK. Ask Teresa who you can contact at http://www.north-cyprus-weddings.com 0533 867 3530

Getting married in TRNC in fact is free, however not recognised internationly. In RoC,nicosia, walk through Ledra street, keep walking as far as pedestrianised bit goes,at the end of that look to your left,Nicosia Municupality is just there, and thats where you get registered/married.About €170/180 if prepaired to wait 4 weeks,if not €280/300 within couple of days.

You do need the papers stating 'you are single',and of course your passaports.

However, for the ones that wants to marry in TRNC,obtain all necessary paper work and it is FREE.Nobody out there is going to do your dirty work for you and for nothing at the same time.

My wife and I got married in TRNC,got all the paperwork ready in UK.Registerar came to restaurant with us(CENNAP in Lapta)and left 10 mins after.Job done, bob's your uncle.

Yorg as a TRNC citizen i am surprised that you think that marriages here are not legal, yes they are and they are recognised internationaly. They are also not free as you suggest.

Teresa,I never said it is not legal, try reading again.

The registerars are volunteerers to do the job. They don't get paid for it.However, you may choose to tip them.

Yorg "Getting married in TRNC in fact is free, however not recognised internationly" may mislead people into believing that their marriage is not legal when in fact it is 100% legal and recognised internationaly.

The registras office have set charges for marriages here in TRNC and they differ depending on the nationality of those getting married.

Scubadoo.....if UK citizens are already resident full time in the TRNC they do NOT have to leave the island in order to be married here. Having personal experience of getting married here we can give you any advice/help you may require.

As someone who has been married here in the TRNC i can say that they are not free although the charges are not very high depending on what you want. if you get married in the registry office then it will be cheaper than if they were to come to a different location. if you contact the registrars they will be able to advise on all the paperwork you need and all the costs. the office has moved to the building to the left of the postoffice, at the side. they are also 100% legal although the certificates are in Turkish but you can go to an office in the court building and pay a small fee to get an original copy in English if you happen to need one but in my experience most places accept the Turkish copy. the only weddings i know here that are not recognised by law is that in the mosque.

Teresa is talking sense. And you do not HAVE to leave the island. I know a couple who found a lawyer to do all the work for them. The charge was not cheap, but worth it. It meant they didn't have to find two air fares to U.K, did not leave their jobs for any period of time to take a 'holiday' to do the paper work, and did not have the hassle of going to central London.

Teresa will give you answers, but go to the office as suggested above when you will find how much and where and when it can happen. It appears to be slightly different depending on whether you are a TC or an ex pat, and the fee is slightly different too, but cheap as chips.

And good luck with the wedding and I hope it is all you want it to be.

I see someone mentioned Sri Lanka. Seen one out there and the music was cliff Richard's 'Congratulations'. Nice to hear once, but every day and unavoidable made me feel that North Cyprus offers a much better service/ceremony, and the weather is great.

You should consult a wedding planner. He can give you the best guidance.

And then there is Carol Blackwell Gibbs, and Vashti, and as has been mentioned Teresa, Angelic Events, and I b elieve there are others. They will all give good advice and arrange for you if required. Personal choice isn't it. Or you can consult with the government office in Kyrenia and find out how to dlo it yourself at the cheapest price and the least inconvenience.

At the end of the day it needs to be a super happy, stress free occasions to give great memories tolast all your days together in what we always hope willbe 'wedded bliss.'
