Is it easy?I was married to an Uzbek lady< a devout Muslim> in a UK registry office some 6 years ago.

4 years ago she returned to her country to get her daughter engaged/married,and we have not been in touch since. Now I must get on with my life, and be officially single again.

Anyone start me off,and recommend a good solicitor?

Would the divorce be recognised internationally?

I am British, have lived here over 2 years, and no intention of returning to UK

A TRNC divorce is recognised internationally. If you know her current address, a notice can be sent direct otherwise it can be placed locally in a newspaper. If she fails to respond, it should not take too long.

Hi Mike

Just say nowt mate and get on with marring another one, you'll find once they have a brit passport and a few bob there off like a shot, it would be cheaper to get yerself off to the lipstick club, all of the fun with non of the hastle or find a fat lass with an ugly face, as they never want to leave the hut.

Need any help just call Dixies marrage consultancy true glue for broken hearts.

Sorry to tell you a sad story. There is a couple who met here and now in England where they hope to marry, following the divorce of the female of the twosome. She has been told very firmly that her divorce from North Cyprus is NOT recognised in U.K and she is having to go through it all again.

Lawyers from here have said that it SHOULD be recognised, and there are ways of forcing the U.K to revcognise itg, but the brick wall is so high against her that she is going down the path of divorce in U.K just to make sure she can marry soon.

So, beware! No lawyer here told her that the divorce would NOT be recognised in U.K. We know that marriage here is recognised internationally, but somehow the divorce is not unless you are a Turkish Cypriot. But for Brits who marry in U.K, the suggestion is that the divorce is done in U.K. It could wlel be cheaper too! So, Mike of Lapta, be careful. The stress of divorce is bad enough without having to go through it twice emotionally and financial

mess 5 - good advice Mike............

It seems fairly obvious that as the TRNC isn't recognised by the UK - how can legal documents knocked out there be recognised in the UK ??

The TRNC title deeds are not recognised as legal title to the land by the uk - so why would a divorce document be any different ???

Any of course a TRNC divorce lawyer, may not tell you this !

Mess 1 - Mike - just a though - if you stay married - then you cannot repeat the mistake again ! - oh by the way, does she have a sister ??

Well I was married in England and divorced in North Cyprus, and my ex-husband has got remarried in England, to an English woman, without us having an English divorce. They are now back living here, and he swears his new marriage in England is legal. ??????????????????

If you have no plans of returning to the UK, why not convert to muslim yourself - forget the divorce, you're allowed 4 wives anyway! When you get remarried, make sure everything is in your new wife's name so that if you decide to 'snuff if' the old one can't get her hands on it! and make sure the new one makes a will to leave everything to you in case she decides to 'snuff it'. There you go, job done!!

One other thought, assuming you're worried that the old one will cause problems for you financially through UK channels, if she's a devout muslim, have a word with the local Imam to see if he can divorce you from her. She'll probably take notice of that since it's done under the recognition of God rather than through any court regardless where it is.
