I do not shop often usually for things for the house and for al;l the dogs i feed. yesterday night as we left work I went to illeli everything was so much more expensive as they had a price hike. OK in Uk we expect a little per centage but 10 to 20 per cent on my dog food etc. We have had gas go up water , everything but can we pass them on NO.

Lilli,my husband has had a wage cut of 5 thousand pounds a year....He was told to like it or lump it, there are plenty of people out there who would step in his shoes......He is earning less than he was five years ago, and yet everything else has increased...........roll on retirement............

I earn much less than I did five years ago. Petrol and just about everything else is much more expensive, probably over two thirds...It's much the same for everybody - but crap none the less...

I also work for local government. Job evaluation meant we were downgraded, meaning a £2500 a year pay cut, frozen for 5 years. No pay rises but everything else went up.

Told yesterday that we have 3 months and if we can't get redeployed elsewhere we're out of work!

I've worked for local government for 22 years and only had 2 days off in the past 8 through sickness.

I class myself as one of the lucky ones to have been employed for as long as I have been but it's still not fair that they can put prices up of absolutely everything and expect people to pay all their bills.

Does anyone look at their receipts when shopping here? I can't make head or tail of the new VAT rates. Milk now is zero rated but still the same price. As for the other rates. they don't seem to make sense to me. Perhaps the government is still deciding?!

What happened to the supermarket special offers website?

For those feeding lots of stray dogs, I have seen Bandit brand dry dog food for sale - 27tl for 15kg in a small shop between Lefkosha roundabout and Bellapais traffic lights.

The hunting shops are also selling 15kg dry dog food for 28TL. I think it's called Patrick or something similar.

But the utility companies are allowed to put up there prices, and the big supermakets are still making huge profits. It seems that the goverment are trying to sqeeze every last penny out of its people, no wonder its known as rip off Britain !!

A lot of people in the UK are complaining about the increased cost of going to work to earn less than last year. I reckon pensions will be next because they are index linked. With 4.5% inflation they'll be getting a "pay rise" (stand-still in buying power) in April while the rest seem to be able to buy less with what they earn.

I saw in the paper about a lady in Ozankoy (I think) who has set up a website detailing all offers in the various supermarkets here, the website is: http://www.ncsupermarkets.com

I haven't had chance to look yet but its sounds a good idea in theory and may be helpful?
