Contact a shipping agent in the UK (if you want to bring over your furniture). Over the years we managed to bring most things over in our suitcases without any problems. There are many that can help you. If you want to buy new then there are various shops around especially in the Girne area. If you are in Famagusta then I'm not really sure but there must be plenty now. Nicosia is normally cheaper to buy items than Girne.

Your shipping agent should sort everything out for you. All we had to do was wave our heavier stuff goodbye in the UK and it was delivered to our door in Cyprus. All we had to do was go with our agent to Nicosia to the Police Station (you'll need our passports for everything), then on to Customs to have them stamp our passports and release the stuff.

You need too get a 1 years visitors residency visa so that you can live here longer than 3 months which is quite easy to get. You need to go to immigration at the police station with a letter from the local mayor of your vllage where you are staying, a title deed or rental agreement, a bank statement with at least £2000 in it, copy of your passport and 2 passport size photos. After this procedure 2 weeks later you need to go to Nicosia immigration to get your visa stamp in your passport at a cost of 130 ytl. Best to speak to someone when you get here as you will have 3 months from the time you arrive to work things out.

Be careful as some people will want to charge you £50+ to do this for you but things have changed as the police need to take a picture of you now at the immigration office.

Clarisse why dont you also trying asking Joan at http://www.frankandjoan.com as they moved out to TRNC a few years ago and they would definitely know the procedure.

I forgot too mention that you will also need to go to a hospital either private in Kyrenia or the general hospital in Nicosia for a blood test and tb injection or if obtaining a work permit you will also need to give a poo sample. yuk

just a blood test is required for residency permits, also reguarding work permits only people handling food and drinks need to do that poo test. (yuk agreed, but thorough) I never needed to do that for my permit (thank god!) I used a lovely clinic called Metin Erduron laboratory (sorry if spelt wrong) the little road opposite the sekerbank close to the hsbc at the very top of the high street. They charge 100ytl for the blood and tb test.
