I would love to join the above being an ex member of Her Majestys Forces, as would a lot more people from the east side of Girne.

But as the Star Newspaper says it is going to be based in the Waterfront in Lapta.

Could we not rethink the location & make it half way ie Girne Centre some where, then that would be central for all concerned.

Just a thought Brian hope you can accomadate & boost member numbers.

The TRNC is more than just Girne. Halfway would be Tatislu (ish).

I was thinking the same thing, answering Yes to all 3 questions too. Seems it all happens on one side of Girne but we are ever hopeful it can be brought more central.

Isn't it more a question of WHERE SUITABLE PREMISES CAN BE FOUND, rather than choosing the geography that suits. Maybe if it grows, a second premises could be found at the Karpaz end?? But from I can gather, just finding a premises where you can put a snooker table is hard enough!

Personally i am quite happy where the BL will be although i appreciate that it may be a little inconvenient for some of our eastern cousins.

You just have to look on the bright side it will be an opportunity to visit the privileged West.

More importantly is that the hard work of Brian and his colleagues have eventually got this off the ground, well done i say.

So without moaning on location use it and support their hard work.

Hi All, firstly as a Branch we are under a remit to ensure that any premises that we use for an RBL Clubhouse has to be on 'safe' title deeds (just think Orams) and the Celebrity Hotel offers this, although we are aware that it is not as central as we would have hoped but the cost of renting a property in central Girne is currently prohibitive for a Branch just starting up.

Secondly, we have been in negotiations with the owner of the hotel, Gordon Kent, and he has undertaken to carry out forthwith a refurbishment and refit of the Waterfront restaurant and also moving the Sports Bar upstairs next door to the restaurant complete with a new snooker and pool table which would be available with no operating costs to the Branch. So there is the possibilty of a first class location, both for summer and winter activities including an outside bar and large beach ar, at which the committee (who are champing at the bit) can lay regular on social and leisure activities, including a Ladies group

Cont'd - a Ladies Section who will lay on a myriad of activities for all members to attend. In addition we would be looking at entering the Branch in all the local darts and pool leagues etc... There will also be discounts at the bar on certain items for RBL members.

I should point out that the RBL is open to anyone to join whether you have served in HMF or not, including Turkish Cypriots, but only ex forces can benefit from the RBL Welfare Support system.

Given a fair wind and calm waters we are currently aiming for a Launch Party in mid March at the conclusion of registration but watch the local press for details.

Apologies for the spelling mistakes but no edit facility!

Please put the opening night details on the board as we might be able to get over for the event.

We don't subscribe to the TRNC local press at home.

The best of luck to all involved.

Hi Brian, further to our off-site e-mail conv. Given the fact I am 50 kms away from the proposed Br HQs, I am still more than happy to assist if at all possible. Time is not an issue and I am reasonably staff trained/aware/practised as an ex-SO1 in a busy and diverse 4 * HQ. Whatever, mate - let me know if you need help, else I will be a casual member unless the hotel can give discount rates for staying overnight to attend Br mtgs.

Best

Hi Brian,

Looking forward to the opening of this fantastic project. If rquired I am happy to assist in any way that I can.

Been living here fro 4 years now and can adapt to pretty much anything. Ex WO1 RMP I laid a wreath last year on behalf of the Cyprus Veterans Group, RMP. This is a group of ex RMP who served here in cyprus both during, before and after the EOKA troubles. As the only member of the group living here I have been appointed as the Cyprus Rep for the group, and do whatever I can to assist the many ex RMP that visit the North.

Now fully retired I have time to dedicate and am happy to do so.

Looking forward very much to the opening, no matter where it is.

Best regards

Denizen, BROWNed off and feeling BLUE to learn that the table and balls are in BAULK. Perhaps the union leader is "Inoff the RED". He should take a CUE and play "the WHITE man" or is he too YELLOW to become a BLACKleg. We should not REST until we end up in the PINK and not GREEN with envy at those clubs which have tables in use.

Apologies to all, I failed to factor in 'Cyprus Time' to the equation!

I will post any further update once I know any more news of the proposed Kyrenia Branch.

In the meantime I am delighted that Gordon Kent has invested a huge deal of time and money in making the Waterfront Bar & Restaurant the place to be in the coming months.

Ermmm,

Just to clarify:

The snooker table - bought, paid for, delivered, carried-in-by-a-team-of-thousands, awaiting fitting - belongs to The Waterfront Restaurant and Bar.

The Waterfront Restaurant & Bar is open to absolutely everyone, irrespective of ethnicity, gender, memberships held or lapsed, political persuasion (though personally I'm not overly fond of religious fundamentalists or other nazis) or even which rugby team one supports.

That said, we are proud to offer our support to the RBL by way of providing a base of operations whilst that organisation becomes established and we encourage everyone to join this worthy cause.

Half full, there is a RMA meeting first weds of every quarter next meeting being !st June, you are more than welcome to come along and meet some retired Booty's !!!! Good luck Brian I know how much hard graffed has to go into starting such a venture here in TRNC, to all the whinners who think driving a couple of miles to attend,I ask this question how far did you drive to get to work in UK,? I know I had to drive over 90 miles to get to work. Stop whinning and support this fantastic project or wind your necks in and let the rest of us enjoy it.

Matula-who rattled your cage?

To me that statement is malicious and uncalled for. Please show your evidence for statement like that, in other words put up or shut up.

Gordon has worked very hard on this project not easy in this economic clime at the moment is then making it available to the BL. You should be supporting this organisation not knocking it.

pheraps you never got your knees brown, we all look forward to using the facility shortly . well done GL
