I'm thinking to switching to iPhone as well.

In the Apple Store in London, it's £510.

I know stores in North Cyprus that sell it at 1700 TL.

That is £660, a net £150 profit (30% more expensive).

I feel stupid buying one here.

Anybody know a store selling it cheaper?

May be in south?

Thanks,

Izzet

That is the price ex vat

What you would actualy pay in the Apple Store in London is 612.00 pounds and that is direct from Apple. THe best price for an unlocked iphone4 32gig on amazon.co.uk is actualy 674.00 pounds

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Apple-A1332-iPhone4-32GB-Black/dp/B003TYNZU6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1297719400&sr=8-1

So TRNC prices are not so bad really.

Personally the idea of paying that sort of money for a phone no matter how 'smart' it might be is ridiculous to me but people seem to buy them so what do I know.

Hi Mert,

I would go for the 16Gb version which is just £510 (includes VAT). I'm only using a fraction of the memory on my 16Gb version and that's with 750 songs and don't forget you can always switch your songs via iTunes, should you hit the 2500-3000 limit. Besides, by the time you've listened to your 3000 songs they'll be a new and a better iPhone out you'll have your eyes set on

I am pretty sure £510 was inclusive of VAT, at the store.

I just checked on the online Apple Store, and it shows £510 inclusive of VAT.

At the "Basket" step, it actually shows £425 + £85 (VAT) = £510.

http://store.apple.com/uk/

Amazon.co.uk prices are no good too.

The reason is: it is not Amazon that sells it, but dispatched from vendors whom I guess bought the iPhone at a higher price and still have to sell at that price.

The 16gig is 510 the 32 gig is 612 inc vat

http://store.apple.com/uk/browse/home/shop_iphone/family/iphone

the reason for the amazon comparision was that for me it was fairer to look at a 3rd party retailer in uk vs one in TRNC rather than apple direct in UK vs 3rd party in TRNC

RoC retailer

http://www.technica.com.cy/cyprus/iphone

No bargins there then

Apple actualy are legaly obliged to sell the product in any EU country from UK if that is where the cheapest price is. As to if they have to offer reasonable priced shipping I dont know, but they can not limit their UK sales to UK buyers only, thats against EU law. So maybe you can just buy from apple store and have it shipped to the south for collection there, either by apple or via a third party. DHL shipping would probly be about 20-30 pounds I would guess and you could put the collection address as being collect in person from DHL office in South Cyprus.

I have bought several PC components from UK online sites and had them shipped to south no trouble as well as a breadmaker from amazon shipped to south as well.

I do have a PO box in south. That's an option.

But the problem is Apple Store UK only ships to within UK. :(

Don't forget that all Iphones bought through plans or Uk pr Apple store are locked to the plan, however if you know anyone in Australia or some other countries that sell them factory unlocked is your best bet (Ebay), that way you dont have to worry about it locking up each time you upgrade. you can unlock them yourself instructions on Youtube,

Last time I asked, they were selling equivalent to $600 US. in Australia factory unlocked, Iphone 4.

Msg 10 - iPhones bought through Apple stores in the UK are all factory unlocked.

Unlocking an iPhone yourself will invalidate any remaining warranty on the phone.

Buying new in the UK and taking item abroad make sure the retailer and buyer fills out appropriate VAT form at point of purchase and reclaim 20% at point of departure. Must be seen so no packing it away in hold luggage. Reclaim office land-side, refund office air-side. A bit of a time pain but easy enough to do gaining plenty of 'beer tokens' as a reward!

Use Turkey as final destination not TRNC as customs want it both-ways, TRNC is part of the EU (Cyprus) if they have to pay out but not for revenue when applying their double standards to booze & fags!

I'll get some quotes later today when out on my travels. Bit of a price war in Bristol at the moment.

Hi Richard, I was thinking about that too but wasn't sure if the Reclaim office would issue cheques to a TRNC address (not sure if they class it as EU or not). If you tell them your final destination is Turkey, will they not want an address in Turkey they can send your VAT refund cheque ?

Msg 14

Refund is in cash near the duty-free section (LHR). Use address ............, Girne, Mersin 10, Turkey. After final process a voucher is issued which is cashed in at the Foreign Exchange Office opposite.

No go at the shops, all locked and sold only with contract. Apple shops only will sell unlocked without contract.

On vat refund, different retailer will refund in different ways and some charge a % of the refund. Typically if you get cash at the depatrue lounge then you wont get the full amount but it depends on the retailer.

tommy13,

apologies for questioning this, but your prices seem too good to be true.

if you are importing this legally, then you have to pay 20-30% to customs.

if you are selling at the same price as the uk and make profiting, then you need to get these at 40%.

i don't believe even a wholesaler can get apple products at 40% margin.

your reply and more details appreciated.

also, can you please confirm if the box is still wrapped as original?
