Used the bypass to go to Girne yesterday - at the new roundabout in Alsancak, I noticed loads and loads of beer bottles and cans thrown on to island in the middle of the roundabout. Makes you wonder about drinking and driving (never mind the littering !) - or maybe its just the passengers chucking out their empties ?

Perhaps it is going to be a feature in a decorative roundabout

Maybe someone just felt they needed to have a party on this roundabout, Take a look next time you pass there might be some people laying around, having got themselves into a sorry state and bedded there for the night, laying out cold to awake with the biggest hangover of their lives...

I think it is an initiative for cost free recycling. The bottles rotate end to end when thrown !

I'm glad it's been cleaned up, but education about the environment should surely come in the form of deterrent fines as well as posters and promotions. And it's not just the Turks, or the Turkish Cypriots, it's everyone - including the Europeans here.

Now we are on the bypass, what is the purpose of the sidewalks/footpaths being constructed at various places cutting down the road width for vehicles? Pedestrians on a motorway! It could only happen here!

I don't think anyone believes that the UK is litter free Yorgozlu but you have to admit there is an awful lot of rubbish here. Wherever we go we see rubbish at the side of the roads, some in rural places that can only have been thrown from passing cars. Where I live we regularly see two of our close neighbours throwing their rubbish into the ravine at the side of the house, all sorts go in there, bags, bottles, old clothing, dog dirt, you name it ,they throw it. The beleydire are aware of this but do nothing, so what is the answer, this beautiful island is being ruined by the blight of all this rubbish.

hattikins;

&100 agreed.However,there is a load of garden rubbish in front of our site in an empty field.....and I can assure you that thay had not been put there by Cypriots.

Everything seems to be either Belediye's or governments fault and the public(us) are all innocent.

Garden rubbish is really not that big a problem, it will rot away in time ( a compost heap is a better idea for that sort of stuff) but plastic bottles,beer cans etc, they won't rot away.

So with regard to my neighbours who is at fault, them for doing it or the belediye's for allowing it.

matula. Didn't you know that sidewalks/footpaths in NC are for parking cars on not for pedestrians to walk on they have to walk on the road. From the Pia Bella up to Lemar new pavements have been laid with block paving a lovely job but you cannot walk all the way on the pavement, oil spillages on there as well.
