Has anybody noticed the different judgments the court came to when compared with O'Dwyer's case.

Long live the RoC and all who sail her.

Never give up hope Lilli. She hasn't sunk yet. Those people in the south of the border with dubious parentage have come to the end of the road. And they know it. They have reverted to playing tiddlywinks I am afraid.

What is really worrying is that TRNC Telecom like the airline is being gifted to Turkey. I guess protection does not come cheap.

It seems the decision is made. It will be two countries after all. The Two Muhtars have decided. Decision is final.

Dear YFred

it has been 'two countries' since 1974.. 'confirmed' in 1983 ..but the reality is somewhat different..

Since April 2004 the 'rump' RoC hasn't realised that the tide has turned.. but they hold those UN Sec Council resolution 'cards' and they mean a compromise from Turkey will come...

Well a compromise from BOTH sides would be needed to resolve the Cyprus problem, and I am not holding my breath!

The Oram's are still left in a very difficult position. The last court judgment required that they demolish their Northern Cyprus Villa. There were rumours that they had been given a new villa by the TRNC government. This was untrue.

The court verdict dictated that If the villa was not demolished, MR A. (the GC pursuing this action ) could claim compensation from their UK assets, namely their home in Hastings. Their villa has not been demolished, not because Mr and Mrs Hastings have refused to do this, but because the TRNC government will not give planning permission for the demolition.

Obviously the Orams are left innocent victims of the current political situation. If the house is not demolished Mr A will go for seizure of their assets. Initially it was thought that they would be "safe" because it was out of their hands and they couldn't abide by the court ruling because of the TRNC's refusal to allow demolition.

This is not the case. Their home remains at risk.

Sorry I called them Hastings rather than Orams in the thread.

Geoff - surely the 'compromise has been the 'acceptance' of not being able to live in one's home/ live/ work where you want and watching one's land being 'sold' for development .... 200K plus folk 'compromised'

Yes Bradus - except they live at Hove and not Hastings - but still Sussexby the Sea! Such a shame, but as far as most know, no new house been given by the government (the current one in a stateof disrepair etc), nothing being done to lift the order on their house in U.K, and a totally unfair way of them having to live having been the victims in a political game not of their making. None of the case makes sense - why them and not the TC's living on the bulk of former Apostolides land - and it means some lawyers have made a lot of mkoney while the Orams have no peaceof mind. And no compensation for the house which cost them something like £100,000.

Since the Orams followed the court order and applied for demolition of their house, which was refused, plus the fact they walked away from TRNC, effectively having written off their property, surely it is not them that should be sued by Apostolides, but the TRNC government, or Turkey, as it is now them preventing him to regain his property in its original state. Should not the British court now direct Apostolides to the IPC for compensation - why should the Orams be responsible and be forced to bear the brunt of this political scam?
