Andy Gray sacked after new tape emerges of him making a crude remark to presenter Charlotte Jackson

Andy Burton becomes the third person to be suspended in the Sky Sports sexism row

Andy Gray was sacked by Sky Sports today after he made sexist comments about refereeing official Sian Massey.

The 55-year-old, who reportedly earns £1.7million per year, was axed three days after his controversial remarks.

His future had been lying in the balance after he was suspended for last night’s match between Bolton and Chelsea.

everybody is entitled to a opinion away from the cameras.

i only went last week to watch stockport ladies play footy ,as my mate coashes a team and is daughter plays .

i was taking same stand ....like so you have a lineswoman ,not a linesman

or do you have a woman of the match award ,...they didnt and still shout man on when somebodys coming to tackle etc

do you think fifa will now allow a lady ref for world cup final etc

you know i love football and rugby, never played just was an orginal wag. Before I came here I worked for the Welsh FA. They were actuallty incouraging women to train to be linesmen etc with a grant they had from the football association. At the time I thought it strange but the amount of skills they had it showed equality and the did encourage it. Grey they will call them what they like but look at the lovely sandra bullock look alike thats a ref now at snooker. Go play netball guys. Only joking but i love the game but times do change. x

Its why I left England. there are people getting murdered every day & Sky Sports thinks we are morally offended by Andy's comments. It is political correctness gone mad!

I even watched Sky News this evening & it was the No 1 Story, whereas No 3 or 4 was 4 children getting burned to death in a suspected arson attack.

....oh please, the lunatics are taking over the asylum!!!

The UK is heading for a US style society where TV Exec's can get sent to prision for showing a naked breast before 9am, but they can show a film where people get riddled with bullets at any time day or night.

Give me NC anytime, with all its wonderful warts...

Good Im glad he's gone. Will give then the chance to get some top totty. Who wants to listen to a couple of old blokes debating offside when you can get a nice looking airhead on who thinks balls in a bag are something entirely different. It's worked with the weather. Who needs Michael Fish when you can have that fit Lucy bird on Sky.

His Microphone was on because he was about to go on air that's why he was filmed as well i would have thought there would have been a few people listening to his sexism remark but unfortunate for him the wrong person heard him may have been a women we will never know. He has been in the job long enough to realise you have be careful when mic up certain people are listening to check the sound is ok before going on air costly mistake for him.

Political correctness gone mad, let's be honest, how many women DO know the offside rule. At the end of the day men will make remarks about women in a mans world and vice versa.

As I understand it he was actually dismissed for a comment about where to put his microphone, what happened to the days when a woman would have told him, politely of course, where she would like to put it if he cared to bend over.

If I'd left Sky's sports desk and bumped into Charlotte Hawkins at their news desk I'm sure I'd have said something untoward!

Why wasn't Richard Keys sacked as well? they were both culpable - arrogant misogynistic yobs - overpaid and thinking they were invincible. I don't know if he still lives here, but I am in Windsor, and years ago, I had tied up my dog outside a shop whilst I went inside, when I came out - Keys had crouched down with his little daughter (a toddler) in front of him, and was about to hold out her pudgy little hand towards my dog (a Shiatzui) who immediately yapped. The man must be mad. If a dog is tied up - you NEVER approach - I raised my daughter not to touch anyone's dog, unless asking the owner first if safe to do so, and even then, I didn't encourage it, because all of us dog owners swear our dogs would never hurt a soul - but a dog is an animal with instincts - I would never risk allowing a stranger to stroke her. Keys blushed bright red, with fury and because he realised what a prat he was - I told him what he had been about to do was stupid, and untied my pooch and walked off...

Tiggy - your point? Depending on the geography - every place on this planet has properties for rent - at different levels, taking into consideration local wages, closeness to the capital, reliable public transport.......job opportunities - and so forth..........if unwaged, there are literally thousands of Council houses in Windsor - perhaps you would enlighten us all as to what your comment was meant to convey - or was it just polemical vitriol

Thanks for this Kavenkoy. His sexist remarks will make now him unemployable as a TV sports presenter. I hope employment tribunals back up Sky Sports . Losing a job worth 1.7 million sterling p.a. clearly shows him that times have changed and these crude comments are no longer acceptable in the workforce.

Keys not being sacked makes me suspicious also as to the real motives of Gray's removal. And if it is the case that he was stiched up for whatever reason then it is absolutely disgusting that this sexism stuff was used - or rather - that his dismissal was in the name of this feigned public outrage

"His sexist remarks will make now him unemployable as a TV sports presenter"

Doesn't seem to have had much impact on the 'employability' of Jonathon Ross or Russell Brand, albeit I appreciate that they are not sports presenters.

Give it a few months and it will all blow over and he will probably appear as a pundit on the Abu Dhabi Premiership sports channels.

When Gordon Brown was caught 'off air' talking about 'that bigoted woman', should we have said,.....

"Oh it's only Gordon having a bit of banter,..."?

It helped Labour lose the Election and Gordon his job.

So was it 'banter' with Andy Gray or entrenched sexism?

The later studio tape appears to show it was the latter.

The FA have been working hard for years to improve the image of football for families and to stamp out any type of abuse, Gray has set that back by years.

Quite right that he got the sack.

(If i'd been on his salary, I'd have been a bit more careful to bite my lip and err,... play the game!)
