We are planning to ship over later this year. But have been told that if one has stayed for more than 180 days over the last 10 years, then we will have to pay full duty on all our possessions! As we have had a house here for over 10 years plus over 300 days on the island, have we outstayed our "welcome"? I would really appreciate some clarification of the current rules.

P.S.

You could wait for a settlement and TRNC then being part of the EU.

But don't hold your breath,

Thanks Geoff. I guess we'll have to pay up! Do you know if there is a scale of duty available, or is it up the "whim" of the officer in charge?

There will be a scale of duties, but the problem here is they tend to move the goal posts all the time.

Just hope you catch them on a good day!

Good luck,

Geoff

Get a shipping agent to deal with this for you. Try Armen Shipping in Famagusta, they will have all the up to date information. Tel: 0392-3663565. They can offload containers, deal with all the paperwork and also arrange delivery.

Make sure tyo claim back the duty and VAT on the items you are 'exporting' from the EU.

Do not get caught out paying double taxes.
