I know I am going to make myself really unpopular but having been a Senior Nurse Manager for many years it worries me that you are prepared to put any potential client at risk sending someone out to care for anyone without references, CRB check, professional indemnity insurance and a check on basic training levels. Sorry but there is very good reason for all this being in place.

Margaret msg 8 - I understand your concerns & I am sure you will not be unpopular - they are better brought up so users are aware.

I among many feel some of the PC requirements in the UK are over the top some are with good reason (many might feel some are just there to make work for bureaucrats’ (civil servants). On the other side of the coin some of the procedures may have proved invaluable.

I would like to ask five things:

1] Have you been in touch with Christine to find out how many & what checks she carries out.

2] How many people in the TRNC are qualified with current relevant CRGB checks who would assist for a pittance or for free?

3] How many people would be glad of or need the Nurseawful service (given free)?

4] Do you have any knowledge of public indemnity in Turkey and the TRNC (how limited it is) and worse how little is in place

5] As you are "young" and experienced can you offer Christine or those she helps some badly needed help?

Tom some good points as has Bertie too.

Post 1 if you read it again is not asking for voluntary workers.also she said in post 2 work available. Chris is as always is doing a grand job, but she cant keep doing it on her own good luck Chris in finding your staff. Its a shame people cant just read the post as it say, and get in contact they all seem to want Chris to phone and email them and thats not the way it is when looking for work its the other way round. Some people just sit back and expect to do nothing and work come along. Shame on you. It happens all the time on here saying I can do it here are my details. I just wonder why

Bertie, As your e-mail address is not showing on your profile I will try to answer some of your concerns on here. As far as i am aware you have a Criminal Record Check before you are allowed to take up temporary residence in this country.

Regarding the carers them selves do you honestly think that I am so unprofessional that I would just ask here on the forum and let them loose on a patient without 1. finding out if they are able to do the job competently, 2. Making sure they know how to move and handle a patient without any harm coming to the patient or themselves!

3. NC is a very small place and believe me I know a lot of people so enquiries are made as to the carers character and if I for one minute think there is anything dodgey about them believe me they don't get work.

Finally if you want to e-mail me I can let you have my full name and PIN so that you can check the NMC register and see that I am a qualified nurse and have kept my registration up

As someone with a lot of years experience in this business the legislation/ requirement in the UK was put in place to protect the public following very high profile instances of abuse. Although no one would claim it is perfect it has gone some way to improving standards and identifying people who are not suitable for this sort of work. It would not be possible for someone like Christine to obtain a CRB. References can be equally problematic even in the UK but should always be written on Co Headed paper followed by a phone call to establish their authenticity, I think these would be exteremly unlikely to be in place by Fri.

Although I can admire Christine for assisting those in need of care I feel that recruiting others leaves client and carer vulnerable to all sorts of issues.

Sorry but it really isnt as simple as wanting to help if you are recruiting others

Margaret Msg 13 - how do you know that "someone like Christine" has not got a CRB check?

If you are at such a high level of power within the UK security forces or police to have been able to ascertain that in a matter of less than 30 minutes I wonder what you are doing on this BB.

I'm sorry but you might have the experience and also be very well intentioned about this but if you know how easy it is to prepare headed paperwork or get a land line (about 10/15 minutes from scratch) you would also know that no matter how hard you try all systems of security are fallible.

You are talking about North Cyprus and not the UK where different standards and requirements apply.

Please can we return this to Christine's request for urgently needed help for others in need.

Bertie,

I also have a lot of years NHS experience. And included in that was not to be unprofessional and get into a discussion like this on a public forum. Please read my comments on message 11 and 12 and then if you have further queries please e-mail me off board. thank you.

Flight holiday I'm afraid I do know what I am talking about when It comes to CRB disclosures and training of care staff. As I suspect you have absolutely no idea how difficult care work can be and the risks which are posed to both carer and client perhaps it might be prudent not to comment.Manual Handling should only be taught by a recognised trainer who has a current certificate to allow them to do this. The risk of injury to client or carer is very real and could result in permanent incapacity, allegations of theft could ruin someones life here. The standards set in the Uk may not be infallable but they have done much to raise standards and although they may not be requirement in Cyprus applying them here can only act as a safeguard to those involved. I trust if someone made a claim against TRNC healthcare they would have the financial resources to deal with this.

Margaret - Msg 17 and your others: In my business I have a duty of care and do not take it lightly I will not go on about my experience or background as it is personal but I promise you I do have far more than a little understanding and take many social responsibilities.

You have not replied to my questions:

1] As you are "young" and experienced can you offer Christine or those she helps some badly needed help?

2] how do you know that "someone like Christine" has not got a CRB check?

You do not offer your email address but I hope that you have had the courtesy to email Christine who has offered you hers (while backing out of this conversation). I think she feels that the users who are currently given some care need her attention.

I will finish with the reminder of Msg 1 which said:

TRNC Healthcare are now looking for carers preferably west of Girne. If interested e-mail me with details of any experience or telephone me on 0533 884 5621. Thanks

Bertie Message 13 please correct me if I am wrong but it is my understanding that there is no such course as Manual Handling, I thought it was now assisting a Client and the safe use of a hoist !

Hi Chris, have you any work on the east side of Girne? The reason I ask is that I know 2 people who have spent many years working as carers for the elderly and infirm who may be interested. Before I pass on your details I thought I would check on the work situation out this end so as not to waste anyone's time. Keep up the good work many of us appreciate it!
