Britain’s reputable daily, the Financial Times, has reported that the UN has concerns over a possible break off at the Cyprus negotiations in case the two sides fail to reach an agreement within the next two months.

In its article published on the Cyprus summit in Geneva, the Paper said that the UN-sponsored Cyprus talks gained momentum following the tripartite meeting in New York held in November 2010.

It however claimed that Cyprus may be permanently divided this year if the two sides fail to reach a settlement.

The paper also reported that the UN is concerned over a possible break off at the ongoing talks should the two sides fail to reach an interim agreement before upcoming general elections in Turkey and the Greek Cypriot Administration.

Citing an individual source, the Financial Times noted that no agreement has been reached even on chapters of Economy, Governance and Power-Sharing and the EU Matters, which are perceived to be easier to resolve.

The daily also reminded of the fact that the Cyprus Turks were left out of the European Union despite their approval of the UN resolution Plan in 2004, while on the other hand the Greek Cypriot Side, which rejected the plan, had unilaterally become an EU member.

Scary in some senses, isn't it. When oh when will UN, EU, Britain and everywhere else get the history of it all into perspective and see that the talks are going nowhere, even with such a lovely 'referee' as Alexander Downer . I understand that all of Eroglu's proposals were chucked out en bloc, and no consideration given to any of them. Maybe the talks have already come to an end. Can't see what other way they can go, with RoC digging their heels in and demanding their rights!

And what has tghe EU got to say, one wonders? Anyone heard anything?

I think we were part of Turkey from 1974, its just that more people are realising it now.
