daily dosage of vitamin b1 and garlic capsules, works for me. Electric bug zapper left on at night, handful of Turkish coffee in a dish and light it(let it smoulder), buggers hate the smell.

I should like to make it clear that I have absolutely no medical training or experience, and am quoting from memory (dodgy at best!) -

I seem to recollect an article in one of the local newspapers, probably a year or more ago, which said that sand flies simply 'pass on' whatever virus/infection (can't remember which) that they happen to be carrying. I think I lent the article to someone...

I would hazard a guess that it might, therefore be possible to catch 'different' sand fly diseases from different sand flies...

Incidentally, the article (by a nurse, I think) recommended insect repellant containing DEET as having been proved to be most effective. After extensive testing (on myself) I must say that I find the simple 'Family' insect repellant, or Autan, or anything containing Citronella to be far and away the most effective.

DEET was relatively ineffective - although I'm not talking specifically about Sand Fly in this case, - just about flying / biting things in general, and it may be the case that DEET is particularly effective against sand fly in particular.

My neighbours were badly affected by sandfly fever when I was

our in TBV last month. They had to get injections from hospital

Their young son was not affected. Many people get bitten by the

nasty little things, but few actually become ill. They are so small

it is hard to keep them off, but usual things suggested help.

Hi Jock,

Sorry to hear about your hospital stay.

It was'nt me. I only stuck a pin into the dolls bum! Anyway, you came from the land of the midges. The little sods eat me half to death, a few years ago.

I will be out on 24/9. I am bringing The Lady wyn. She will bite the little devils back, see how they like a week in hospital.(mental ward)

We will arrive late 24/9. Perhaps we should arrange our soiree for 30/9. In any event we will be at The Ship for 8 days, so plenty of opportunity to swap tales.

Enjoy The TRNC. Personally I am envious. Donkey stakes!.....yum yum!

Having been a victim of the sandfly "virus" a couple of weeks ago I sympathise with you. It reallly knocks you about reminds me a bit of how you feel after getting Chicken pox as an adult.

Keep getting plenty of rest and I hope it can't happen again for everyone who has had its sakes.
