beware @ carrfour they have put a no right turn sighn up it's well before the junction and the police are sat waiting to book you. To get in you must go to the next turn then do a right and right again. A tip should you ever be caught and be going to be given a ticket over there show your uk driving licence and tell them before they write the ticket you will sort it out the next time you are in cyprus.......amazing they loose the will to write the ticket and send you on your way.

Around Christmas last year we got caught by a speed gun in Troodos mountain area. My husband showed his UK licence and we still got issued with a speeding ticket and told we had '50' days to pay. We left it until the New Year, about 3 weeks later and had to pay a 50% fine because it had to be paid within 15 days....obviously we misheard, glad we didn't leave it any later. Re UK driving licences - we have both Turkish and UK driving licences and show the latter at the crossing point. I believe it has been reported that the GCs at crossing point will not accept a Turkish driving licence from non Turkish Cypriots.

Both hubby and I have a TRNC driving licence but not a UK one (both were non drivers in UK). There was an article in the Cyprus today a couple of weeks ago which highlighted a couple who tried to cross the border on their TRNC licence (their Irish driving licence had expired and at that stage had not been remewed). They were told that mainland turks and cypriots could use their licences to cross the border but not foreigners as they were living "illegally" in the north. Discrimination or what!

The sign certainly turned up somewhat after the road layout clearly indicated that a right turn was not wanted. As Nige says, now you know they are booking people for the offence it pays to obey the sign and go on to the traffic lights and approach it from the other direction... Or more in keeping with the Cypriot way of driving (north or south)... go just beyond the turning do a completely unsignalled three point turn and, having caused chaos in your wake, turn left into the turning... what fun.

A blonde woman was turning right into Carrefour in her little red sports car and was pulled over by a woman police officer, who was also a blonde. The cop asked to see the blonde's driver's license. She dug through her purse and was getting progressively more agitated. "What does it look like?" she finally asked. The policewoman replied, "It's square and it has your picture on it." The driver finally found a square mirror, looked at it and handed it to the policewoman. "Here it is," she said. The blonde officer looked at the mirror, then handed it back saying, "Okay, you can go. I didn't realize you were a cop.
