Does anyone know if Amazon Kindle 3G service works in North Cyprus?

The map shows the southern part but not the northern part.

It does work in Turkey though, so it is likely to work here as well.

Hi Izzet

The 3g version of Kindle costs half as much again as the wifi version and in my opinion is not really worth the extra, after all these days one is never far from a wifi connection where you can download your literature.

Personally I have the wifi version and have managed to browse and download books perfectly well over wifi when I am over in Cyprus.

UK price for the wifi Kindle is £111 and it is probably the best money you will ever spend

I agree John. I am thinking of getting one and will save my £40 (difference between the wifi and 3g versions).

Still curious to know.

I am also checking this with a friend working at KKTCell and will post here his comments.

No. The advertising banner is Telsim.

My friend is working at KKTCell (Turkcell).

Kindle works well in TRNC. Easy to buy books from the Kindle itself so you don't have to have your laptop handy.

There are some free books and very cheap books, but you have to pay for the newer releases, sometimes dearer than buying the books (not including postage of course)

Hope this helps

Both the 3g & wifi work fine in NC.

I'm down the Tatlisu area & have downloaded 6 books since Xmas.

Took about 20secs. per book.

Once you have an account set up with Amazon it's just one click ordering.

I'm interested in the revenue stream charging model for 'free 3G', how does TurkCell get revenue for providing free 3G access? I presume Amazon recompense them from the revenue they get from book download sales. These are already being pirated so that's a problem.

I will be interested once it's able to handle colour pictures like a real book, no not because I can't read without pictures but things like wildlife books need pictures for verification. Once they can do this the the era of the hard copy will be on its way out.... maybe?

Must remember not to invest in any printing works!

My neighbour just brought his Kindle over, he downloaded some books to show me how easy it was, not free of course, but considerably less expensive than going and buying books and also there is a weight issue when you are bringing them all out from the |UK.

I was so impressed that I will buy one for myself now.

suehowlittle, there are loads of free books available from Amazon for the kindle as well. Just browse the kindle store in amazon and you will see.
