Use a mirror and torch to look up the chimney to see if there are any restrictions. I had the same problem, builder had only cut a 4 inch hole in ceiling to draw fire.

Have you got good ventilation into the room? If air doesn't come in the flue won't work properly.

Hi

We can organise for your chimney to be cleaned and can give you a competitive price to fix any problem that you might have. We are a British owned and run fully legal company here in Cyprus, all our work is guaranteed and we have Zurich (TEB) liability insurance.

Thanks

Steve

Did you start the fire properly, most folk don,t you have to get a good draw on your chimney first.

start by using firelighters and very dry kindling this will put some very fast heat up the chimney

after a few minutes add more very dry wood this should start the chimney drawing normaly.

Ozkent is right. You need to get hot air rising up the flue to get the fire drawing. If the smoke cools in the flue it will "stall" and prevent proper drawing.

Firelighters, kindling, more kindling (pallet wood or similar) until fire hot enough for logs.
