Probably not right place to ask this question???????.

Would anybody be interested to help start this off, possibly a competition between towns/villages or inter-pub.

Standard format 2 mins each to present the argument ,for and against the motion, votes cast then the debate starts for 10 mininutes or more, swing votes measured in percentage points

Sensible questions only to be debated

I believe the RBL is looking to have a debating society monthly once they are up and running.

What's wrong with it on here. At an agreed date and time so we can all attend and perhaps have a agreed people to take part.

I would love it. I used to attend the off the cuff speech competitions where you would be given 60 seconds to think about it and then talk for 3 minutes. Another category was the prepared speech of your choice. Once I argued that Laziness did pay and won the competition. (Not just a pretty face you know )Good old days.

I have friends who are always complaining at the lack of a debating society. Great if the RBL do it, but maybe it could be started as a small bodyh on its own. Give details as to who to contact and I will pass on the message. I know several who would be keen to join. Seriously!

But how woud we stop it becoming a "single topic debating society" ;-)

Shall we agree that we have debated all the possible permutations about who/when/where/how on The Continuing Debate.

Does anyone need an explanation of what I'm alluding to?

Fair enough, but remember "I's rude to shout".
