Hi

Can anyone tell me the rules and regs for me travelling from the North to Larnaca airport. ie insurance papers etc.

This would be in April this year.

I need to go to Larnaca to pick up my Mum and my sister to come and stay with us in Esentepe.

This pick up would be in our car which is registered in the North .

This would be my first excursion South from the North.

Thanks

Ronaldo

easy , cross the border at metahan , pay insurance at greek border 30 euros , lasts for 1 month , drive to larnaca pick up family ,have a happy time , tip , on the way to pick up family pick up TRNC visa papers and fill them in , ie names & passport numbers , this will ensure a smooth entry back home .

Wow that is some advice!

No mention of the fact that to buy insurance you need to obtain the MOT/Tax paper at Metahan (GC side just before insurance booths). This is free but can only be obtained up to 2PM Monday to Friday.

Insurance for a standard car costs 25 Euro, but is more for half cabs etc. You will need your driving Licence (EU, not TRNC) and vehicle log book.

May well be worth a trial run before the day. Insurance lasts for a month.

Search this site for directions, or ask again.

Maybe you should take a rekkie, as you say. The advice re MOT etc is vital. So, treat yourself for a trip over to Makarios Avenuye and take a look at the coffee shops, Debenham's etc and have a fun half day out without travelling on to Larnaca and then you will have your documents and crossing is simply getting the stamp on your paper.

But as was said, make sure you have an EU driving licence, as they don't seem to like foreigners driving on a TRNC licence.

And always remember to give those Customs men/policemen a nice smile and a Kalimera as you cross over. Does wonders! (oops, Kalimera is 'Good day' in case you didn't know ) and an 'efharisto' (thank you) when you get all your stuff.

Nice bit of entente cordiale goes a long way.

..and don't call it a 'border'.. unless you want to be 'strip-searched' ;)
