Hi Rocky.

Not sure about which conifer is best for you, (although Monterey Cyprus 'goldcrest' hedging is rather pretty, and has a citrus'y scent) however, an extremely popular hedging in Cyprus in Myaphorum. It is very hardy, and grows very high (needs regular pruning to keep in order) and provides great privacy.

thanx DD I wonder whether the citrus scent on the Montery deters mozzies??, I do not know about Myaphorum will need to do a little more research.I do know about Oleander but that is not suitable for the part of the garden where I need an evergreen screen and Oleander also makes a mess with dropsies doesnt it?.

I would say Myaphorum, fast growing and we also have lantana hedges.

I find that with Lantana, it needs a super amount of attention, as it can become extremely unruly, and the berries are poisonous, so not good if you have children. Oleander also provides good coverage, but again poisonous.

Good luck with finding what suits you best.
