Reading the Cyprus Today about dog registration. I brought my dog from the UK with a passport etc. Am I to believe that this entrance did not 'register' him and now I need to register him with the municiple? If so, is this the same place for registering as when paying water bills etc?

In Girne, you register your dog near the main police station (near Wed market). I do not know if this is where you pay your water bills. Hope it helps. Cost is TL12 and you do it annually.

In Alsancak (and I expect Lapta) you go upstairs at Belidye and sort it out and then go downstairs to pay where one pays water bills. You just get a bit of paper - no tag or anything. I asked about a tag and they said the receipt was enough - though the details are kept in a file - which considering how large the area is, was not THAT full!!

I thought that the whole idea of registering the dog was so that it could be given a tag with an individual number. If the dog was then found, the owner could be identified. My dogs are registered with Girne Belediye and have got individual tags. Paul

To register your dog(s) is a requirement in the TRNC. Initial registration is at the vets office opposite the Girne Hospital where you will be given a "Green Card" showing whether the animal is a bitch or dog and registering the "Chip Number" (Also reqired by law here. The cost there is 10 TL per dog. You must then go to the local Belediyesi to register them locally. (In my case Alsancak) where they will issue an A4 sheet of paper showing the dogs names, bitch/dog, type of animal (whether they have been speyed or not - costs more if they are not) and they year of registration. My cost at the Belediyesi was 47 TL . for my two dogs ( Neither have been "DONE" !) On subsequent years, only the trip to the Belediyesi is necessary for annual registration. I hope this helps

We have registered both our dogs with Esentepe and also Girne. You get a registration disc for each dog (different number yearly). No cost at Esentepe but as I said in previous post TL12 in Girne
