Feed him/her dry food, no treats or tit bits, then you won`t need a vet.

Also, buy a kids toothbrush and do them yourself. It takes patience the first few times but then becomes dead easy - don't use any mint flavoured product and just make sure it is for kids!!

Both my dogs just love to have their teeth cleaned...I do it often and friends laugh at me when I say I just have to have dogs with clean teeth..same toothpaste as we use, well not ours If its good enough for us ! I just use a little and use a dish for the water they love it..When they get stuck into the fishy cat food they know the tooth brush will be out very soon.. Spider X

Give your dog a marrow bone. It really keeps their teeth clean and does them good too.

Thanks for all the tips but he has only ever been fed dry food and he has no tit-bits other than proper dog treats. We have given him marrow bones but he doesn't really chew them, he just buries them. I am more than happy to clean his teeth myself but they really need doing properly first and I will then continue. Would still appreciate a vet recommendation please. Thanks.

Hi, Jo, I think all the vets offer it but they need to give the dog anesthetic and put them out to do the work. So if the dog needs something else done get it done at the same time. Remember there is always a risk every time they are put out.

Hi Jo, Our dog is going to Pet Cross on Wednesday to have his teeth cleaned and any dental work that is needed. He won't open his mouth for us to even have a look at his teeth, so no chance of us cleaning them. He will need an anesthetic though. The butlers wife

Thanks for that Mrs Butler just what I wanted to hear. Do you have any idea how long it takes? Also, could you post the number please for Pet Cross and directions from Bellapais lights. Jo

Like Groucho, have always fed my dogs raw carrots, broccoli, cauliflower and kohlrabi. There teeth are very clean and their breath does not smell. The eldest one and the smallest is in excess of 18 years old, so must be doing something right.

Ours love fresh carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, apples and bananas. They only ever have dry food and they have a chew stick every morning and their teeth still look like they need cleaning! Dentastix no good with ours, one chew and then they swallow!! Petcross number: 05428826774

That's the problem we have Panchocat with the Dentastix. Maybe certain breeds suffer with their teeth more than others. Our dog is a Pointer, is very healthy and is given no non-doggy food whatsoever but his teeth are terrible. Anyway, he is now booked in at Pet Cross on Wednesday morning so fingers crossed all will be sorted.

Does anyone know if you can buy dog's toothpaste over here, the beef or chicken flavoured ones. I believe you shouldn't use adults toothpaste.
