How many people have prurchased building insurance for their properties?
I am not sure wheher or not to purchase insurance. I have been advised that TC's do not do so, as houses are made from concrete and there is very little, if any wood to burn

Hi ilovecyprus
Not compulsory to have insurance but peace of mind is not that expensive, i would agree that not much chance of fire causing damage but earthquakes can and do!! not only to villas but their pools also. Water damage is another big problem due to the constant fluctuation in water pressure in NC which causes the push on water connectors to separate flooding properties in no time, especially when you are back here in the UK ( nightmare scenario) . Also sadly theft has become more of an issue and should be added to any policy.
I use Steve Dickinson (Broker) in Lapta to do all my insurance he speaks English calls a spade a spade and will give you cover only once he has seen your property to avoid you paying over the top premiums.

I was totally against having it as we were told it was unnecessary but my husband insisted on the grounds that we weren't out there full time yet and was concerned about any damage (accidental or act of god) or theft.
We contacted our solicitor and he arranged everything. The insurance assessor came out and listed all of our furniture, size of the property, what we had paid etc etc.
The "all frills" cost was a little over £300, that was 3 years ago and hasn't gone up since. Yeah it could be classed as a waste of money but it does give a certain amount of peace of mind, especially if you aren't there full time.

If I was you I would, for peace of mind if nothing else. As we are in Alsancak we do ours through the property centre, but pay for it from the UK via an HSBC account in UK.
