We retired to the trnc five years ago and have a love hate relationship with it here.We cannot decide if we should return in the future or stay and enjoy. Would like to know the opinion of anybody who has returned, regrets or not.

As you seem to have a choice. If you enjoy why leave? If you don't enjoy why stay?

| Unfortunately the UK has changed a lot in the last 5 years and not for the better. Having just moved here, after visiting for 5 years, we are loving the freedom and friendliness of the place. When I say freedom I am talking about the difference between here and London where I always felt I had to be on my guard. I expect it is the same in any large city in the UK. I realise that all the red tape here can get one down and that nothing gets done fast but if you accept this, I would stay and enjoy what you have. If you have your health, you have everything. | No we do not hail from an inner city. we come from quite a nice area in Essex. And i am just interested to know if any body has had regrets returning to the UK because if we make the move back we are going to take our dog's back and there will be no return for us because of our animals. |

Returned to the UK in October last year after living in TRNC for 8 years. Miss the sunshine sometimes and a few good friends we made..........otherwise no regrets whatsoever.

Will you be able to take your dogs back from here? I think from this side of the island they have to go in quarantine. I'm sure someone on here will know for definite.

Keith Msg 1 - I am sure many can understand the love hate relationship but now might not be a good time to return as the austerity & gloom in the UK will only deepen for the near future maybe longer Stephen in Msg 4 - Has valid points but I would say that the only reason that you see red tape in the TRNC is that it is not the same (also huge amount) of red tape you are used to in the UK. (Ask any long term visitor or expat in the UK.) Keith Msg 9 - With regard to getting your dogs back 1] Talk to Margaret Ray 2] If you are happy with the quarantine route talk to us and we will chat to out pet import export specialists who have been running quarantine kennels since the 1950's and can assist

I relocated to UK about 5 months ago, mainly becauset my husband died last year in Cyprus. It was a very big decision, which I pondered for a long time. There are so many things I love about TRNC - the people, the sunshine, the scenery....but for me, the changes in the island, (6 years living there permanently) were enough to disillusion me. There seems to be so much corruption now, and , in general, the local people are considerably less friendly than they used to be, and much more interested in how much money us ex-pats have. For living in the UK: being able to see family and friends on a regular basis, cost of most food CONSIDERABLY cheaper than TRNC, more choice of entertainment, better roads, drivers who are generally not as insane as TCs, whether local or mainlander Against living in UK: weather, scenery , too many foreigners, cars and advertising! That is MY reason for moving back, right or wrong!

Msg 12 don't you get out and see some of the wonderful countryside and coastal scenery the UK has to offer, far better than the TRNC has to offer overall.

We moved back to UK last Oct after living in the TRNC for 2 1/2 years. Life here in the UK is not perfect but neither is it in TRNC. There have been a lot of changes not for the better in both places. We still love visiting friends back in Cyprus but taking everything into account we have no regrets.

I left TRNC, not for UK but for Bavaria. I miss the sunshine and the great friends I made in Cyprus, but that is all. Where is the problem, I can visit whenever I like, enjoy sunshine and see my friends?

I talked my husband into returning to England after 5 years in Cyprus. Within two weeks I knew I had made a mistake !. It took me nearly six months to tell him !. Most of all, I found returning to an indoor life was restricting, there is a lovely sense of freedom and a closeness to nature here. Our friends were here in Cyprus , along with our social life . In short, we came back here 8 months ago and have resettled !. We are both happy after our little adventure , one of us will always be away from home, my husband is a local, I am English. Hope you find your solution. We have.....................for now !!!

Hi Burliz, I so agree with your statement about returning to indoor life, I don't fancy that at all. We have rains, but after twenty minutes, we could have brilliant sunshine. Don't you just love it? We have lived here for three and a half years, returned to Uk for a two week stay, to visit my mum, Yes, meat is cheaper, some groceries are cheaper, but where in the world can you buy a loaf of freshly baked bread for 38pence ????? Why do people think the grass is greener on the other side? If your glass is half empty in Uk, why do you think it will be half full in Cyprus? Put me in a VAT of ''poo'', I'll always find something good about it, that's my attitude in life. I'm no youngster, believe me, I've had my share of 'downs', but when I open my shutters in the morning, I always smile at my good fortune, just looking at the sunrise, my mountains, the sea. Not my neighbours caravan parked opposite my house in UK. Good luck to you both, just remember, your glass is always half fu
