Jeez, the NL got within 8 runs of 300 ..... 292 - in 50 overs... Eng are going to REALLY have to go for it...

BIG shock on the cards... ?

Mark

Could be. 292 is a big score - Good effort by the Cloggies

I am pretty sure that we will see Hans later if England fail in their task :-(

Well @ 20% of the overs ( 10 ) Eng had fallen BELOW the run rate required to win ( only 53 ) with the two openers in place..

But they are at 13 overs and it's 83-0 ( 6.3 / over with 5.86 / over needed ) - still REALLY tight

Jeez, 6xM, I've no idea what you're talking about - but it sounds promising... I remember the last time England ("inventors of the game") and Holland met... (Do you, reader? If not, I'll be very pleased to Google the result of the last time and inform my British friends on this board...).

As you asked..

35 overs gone out of 50 .... Eng 189-2 ..at this point NL were 162-4 but finished VERY strongly ..to get nearly 300 is GOOD ..

The aim for England is to get 293 runs before they run out of balls ( 300 = 50 overs of six deliveries per end )

Breaking news (no kidding): Dutch national radio has opened a special telephone number, where listeners can ask questions about (hold your breath now...): CRICKET! Most Dutchmen do not even know how to spell "Krikket"...

Mark, please tell me: whatever happens now or in the next weeks (how long does this bl**dy game lasts..?): can it still be a disaster for Holland? Or can "we" write the final result in the cricket books with pride..?

Cricket*: Live from India (some place) now on Dutch radio! Live! The highest Dutch score ever! Against an A nation.

* Please note: I'm only quoting my old colleague Gerhard de Grooth from India (some place).

Don't forget: Holland (17 million inhabitants) has only 1,000 cricket players..!

Oh well, Holland lost from "the inventors of the game" and the Orange Lions kept the Britishers afraid for hours. Well done, Oranjeleeuwen!

I missed 'the end'

some comments from the Beeb

"If you're just tuning in, you missed possibly one of the worst bowling performances in England's one-day history, including some village-like fielding from Kevin Pietersen and James Anderson - well worth watching between your fingers on the highlights on BBC TWO at 2200 this evening. The batting didn't do much to calm the ticker. However, enough of the England bashing and more of the Dutch superlatives. A very accomplished performance from the Associate nation and in particular the batting heroics of Ryan ten Doeschate, a shoo-in for Man of the Match."

Dutch here are the schedules:

Whatever........ Holland lost, and that is how the records will read.

England of late have been crap at limited overs Cricket....Holland did very well, but nonetheless came up short.

Well done, Holland. A breath of relief from England. Not the Britishers, DC ;-) Scotland, Ireland and Wales have their own teams.

RE msg 15, 6xM: (...) "If you're just tuning in, you missed possibly one of the worst bowling performances in England's one-day history..." (...)

▶ Look it up, look it up: the report reminds me of the match England - the Netherlands in 2010... (First win ever by the Orange Lions against the "inventors of the game of cricket"...).

RE msg 17, AnthonySmith: (...) Britishers (...)

▶ You are right of course - I apologise. (It's sometimes a bit confusing...).

DC, it's okay. The Turkish Cypriots tend to call the British - English.

The English cricket team has had Scots, Irish, Welsh, South Africans, Australians, New Zealanders, Afro-Caribbeans in for ages. We are all encompassing, you see.

But the Scots, Irish and Welsh don't like it ;-)
