After seeing him now on TV very angry and giving a death sentance to any they find against him. Blaming every nation and drugs. Also blames the young for copying Tunisia and Egypt. He claims he created Lybia and will die a martyr. Is he bigger than them x

when academics and the so-called "experts" are not at all sure what will happen in lybia,

us lesser mortals can barely hazard a guess

he is holding on because his immediate circle and those many with a stake in the system

are very scared of what will happen to them if he does a ceaucescu and takes to the sky

as regards his son claiming foreigners and drugged-up islamisists are the cause of it all,

...well he would say that wouldn't he?

Years ago when I was visiting the pyramids of Egypt, they camel men told me that across the desert

was "The Madman" (Gaddafi). He is certainly losing it now, in more ways than one. Hateful regime.

There will be tears before bedtime in Libya. Gadaffi may well catch a bullet in the back of his head.

trncaughan.. I fear that is the only way they are going to get rid of him.He and Mugabe would make a good pair. He cost me a good living in Libya when he first arrived on the scene, told all the foreign engineers working for various oil companies they had 24 hrs to leave...Has not changed one iota since then, like everyone says "just a raving lunatic". If he is sane then I know a place that is full of them....

I see some of the Lybian Ambassors are leaving their post as well as the Lybian delegation to UN because of the awful use of force he has used on his people. They have sat in their seats and seen this madman for years doing it - I suppose they are afraid that should the men on the streets get hold of them they will be for the chop - cowards the lot of them. Like the last sentance of message 12.

Message 11 Agreed Coachie re the Mugabe reference! I have friends in Zim who only wish a popular uprising would begin there...still if Ghadaffi goes then perhaps there's hope...however, there will be blood...and unfortunately, lots of it!

United Nations SC decided to impose a no fly zone on Libya. That means that Gaddafi planes will be shot down by British, French etc. forces if they take off. Thus Gaddafi will be history within a month or so.

After his disclosure that he paid for the election expences of politicians in France is there a chance that more disclosures will be made about other politicians ( perhaps in the UK ) and the Lockerbie bomber being set free.

Will we now learn the truth.

Bet some polies are getting worried.

The use of air power on it's own is not enough. The use of ground troops with support of air power is the only way.

The question is. Have the ' rebels ' got enought strength on the ground to carry the war to Gadafi.

Other questions which need to be asked are, why has Cameron agreed to become part of the air power over Libia when we have done away with most of our aircraft ?

Why are America not taking part ?

'We' may have left it too late.. Gaddafi is likely to try push on and make 'collateral damage'... the UN protectorate hitting those we came to protect.. more likely..:(

He knew this would happen and he will now say it is a 'western conspiracy' to take Libiya's oil..although how that squares with the revolution being down al-Qaeda and drugs only he could explain :(

I note Russia and China are sitting on the fence and can then 'negotiate' with Gaddafi if the no fly zone plan backfires..

High stakes...

He has everything to lose, and I don't think he will go 'quietly'...

I don't share your optimism, Ismet Bey.... but I hope you are right ...

What do YOU think about Bahrain...? it is also high stakes, there, too... Saudi ( and possibly UAE ) sending in 'help'..

Sunni v Shia ... Iran v ..... ?

Marky,

Please call me simply Ismet, "Ismet Bey" can be turned round into the anagram "Be Stymie". Actually that's me, obstructing everything etc. but.....

I am afraid they left it too late which means a lot more Libyans will die but the foreign powers do not really care for that. Its 100% politics but I have no doubt that once the west (France, Britain and possibly Germany with USA behind them) are againsts Gaddafi, they can win but after much destruction. Then they will sell them services against oil.

Saudi Arabia must be the most vulnerable and hence the dictators are helping each other to keep in power but I think the gennie is out of the bottle, the revolutions are inevitable. the outcome of Libya may be the determining force.

Gaddafi has more than enough money stashed abroad, that he could go tomorrow and live in luxurious exile somewhere for the rest of he and his families lives. The fact that he is prepared to hang on until the last Libyan is dead shows how mad he is.

This man will not go until he is pushed out, but I fear a no-fly zone will not be enough on its own.

When I was working in Bahrain in the mid-90's there was trouble then with demands from the

Shia majority for representation in the Sunni controlled gov. which they had been promised.

Murder, bombings etc. there was even an execution (1st in long time). It was kept very quiet

and hardly reported in the U.K press. The Bahrainis must be horrified at the Saudi troops coming

in as they do not like them one bit. Tunisia and Egypt have given hope and heart to oppressed

minorities that all things are possible, and no regime lasts forever.

The popular uprisings throughout the Middle East have their roots in the 2 distinct Muslim religious factions of Sunnis and Shi-ites. Shi-ite populations throughout the region are in the majority, but have been oppressed by Sunni-led royal families and other repressive Sunni regimes. Have to admit I'm not sure about the position in Libya (i.e. whether its Sunni v Shia based again or merely inter-tribal conflict) but think its the one place where split religious loyalties don't apply. Gaddafi has ruled by oppression and nepotism for 40 odd years and ordinary Libyans have had enough and just want some measure of democracy and freedom.

Latest news flash! Apparently Tony Blair has called Colonel Gaddafi personally to ask him to stand down. The delusional lunatic went on for ten minutes about not being a war criminal, before Gaddafi could even get a word in!
