Hi every one, Im planning a wedding in Kyrenia in June 2012 and would like to get married by the registra at the actual venue, but have been told that they are very un reliable!!! Is this common?? Its been recomended that we get married in the registra office before the wedding day, but if thats the case i dont see the point of a wedding abroad! It just wont feel right! Thanks Chris.

Hi Chris Msg 1 - Please note Cyprus time is not UK time so things might happen a little late. The problem will not be yours if you contact one of the organisers who were mentioned on your previous thread http://www.cyprus44.com/forums/54912.asp They have the experience to help you get it right.

You have to arrange for them to be picked up from the office, and be taken to the venue. so depending on your choice of transport, if they are reliable or not.

Flight holidays has made a good suggestion, but if you don't want a wedding planner, don't worry. There are seemingly several options. By going to the Registry Office the day before, you are no different to the many Turkish people who do that. Get the legal out of the way (without dressing up) and then have a celebration (with dressing up!) However, the Registrars are not always late. And some of the problem is that their cars break down or they have no vehicle etc, but ask the wedding planners who will tell you that in the large percentage of cases they turn up in good 'Cypriot time' which has been suggested is not quite the same as U.K. time (maybe 10 to 20 minutes late at the most). As to how it feels, it will obviously feel 'different' because it is a different place and a different culture, so whatever happens it should give good unique memories. Just remember that hundreds of people have got wed here, and no real worries re Registrar - except you have to book them when th

/.cont.... when they are available during their office hours (although for Turkish Cypriots there seems to another set of rules on this). That is why some folk go the day before so they can have a blessing church or secular ceremony as 'the celebration of the wedding' on the day and time they want in the setting they want. But back to square one. Maybe you should talk to one of the excellent wedding planners that exist here, or have you already done so and it is their recommendation possibly due to the hour at which you want the celebration.

The Registrars who come out to the yabanci are Cypriots too. No Brits allowed to do that kind of legal stuff. It is Government Workers. Their English is a little quesitonable but they know what they are doing, and really are just as good as Taraddkadli's I am sure. The Registrars who come out to yabanci weddings are the ones who do speak English and I believe they are different to the Turkish speaking ones, although doing the same job. And don't forget, that the Cypriot style of Registry Office (Kaymakan) ceremony is totally, utterly and completely different to that of the U.K.
