Went to a market yesterday and bought some fresh milk. When I arrived home thought I would have a nice cuppa only to find the seal was already broken and the milk was off. The date was ok but maybe they had put the old milk in the bottle, worrying times here at the moment.

I am no expert on freezers, but i would have thought that turning the freezer on & off would be a false economy.

ROBnjo,

Alive i would have thought if they have turned the electric off,and feeding on the sweet corn and the maggots from the rooten meat.

Enjoy your lunch.

We laugh but at our peril where food hygiene standards are being compromised. I've been watching 'Rogue Restaurants' on BBC1 re restaurant kitchens. Not good.

i had food poisoning about a month ago. pharmacist said that he had seen a lot of people with the same symptoms. two courses of antibiotics later i'm just about alive.

now i shop in the south loaded with cool boxes. have a read up on the syptoms and after effects, it can kill. i usually eat at home now!

ralph96..providing you dont switch off the freezer it will last forever. If the power goes off try not to open the freezer door for any length of time.Frozen food is at a temp. of -25degrees so itwould take at least a few hours to get down to the point where you either use it or throw it ,and that would apply to all your food in the freezer. There is food in some of europes biggest cold stores been in there for years, just in case of emergencies.....

Although chicken will last indefinitely in deep freeze, its flavour will deteriorate and the chicken texture will suffer if kept much beyond 3 months...

Why would you do this anyway?

Surely storing food long-term is a waste of electricity for people who live within easy reach of fresh supplies...

OK we all get the odd bit of mislaid food in our freezers and think "I wonder if this is still OK to eat?" but you should not plan to do it on purpose...

Generally it will be perfectly safe as long as it's not been defrosted more than once...

As a general rule only keep prepared meals with garlic in them for one month as the garlic tends to take on a metallic taste if stored for longer periods...

if a freezer is turnerd off for 12 hours the food or meat would no longer be safe to eat ice cream is a very high risk ..... i worked with food for many years in uk god if i had done this i would have been closed down ..... unless u was eating the food that day forget it
