Should have added that on offer are cervical smears, mammograms, and Bone density scans. Blood tests and other tests can be done on request.

Also I have been assured that all mammograms with be done by female staff this year, as last year a few were done by a male radiologist which a few ladies did not like.

Hi Chris,

I would just like to thank you for taking the time to organise this extremely important 'event' once again.

I did not go on the initial one as I was 'too busy' but when you started to organise the mens health check and offered still to take women, my husband insisted I should go as I had not seen a doctor in 7 years. His attitude was that we spend as much, if not more, on servicing the car so we should look after ourselves!

I went in feeling all fine, fit and healthy and oh so very confident that there was nothing wrong with me. Thank goodness I went as the tests, followed by a op resulted in me having cancer. It has been caught very early but boy oh boy I am glad I went on this health check.

I am undergoing chemotherapy at the mo, yes the hair has gone, but I am so lucky to have been pushed by my husband to go on this.

I would urge anyone who has not been had a health check to do so, your health/life is more important than anything else as you only have one

Scoobydoo,

'the hair has gone' don't worry it will grow again usually thicker and healthier than before.

The most important thing is your life and it looks like you will live to a ripe old age.

Thank you Chris and all of you involved - I'll be signing up again for sure. Life is too precious to take chances or be 'busy' or lazy!

Here's another article I was reading, just yesterday -

Yes thank you Chris for organising this we all take our health for granted. I, too could not be bothered to go straight away as I was completely well and had no symptons whatsoever but eventually got round to having the tests done, which resulted in a fairly urgent operation. Thankfully mine was benign so no further treatment required.

Dr Meliz is the kindest most caring doctor I have ever met, Zalife is super efficient and very switched on and I have nothing but praise for the Medikent.

Scoobydoo all very best wishes for your continued recovery and well done for sharing your experience to jolt other people into having these tests.

Thanks from me too Chris.

After my tests last year issues were raised, as you know. I am now feeling much better and am two stone lighter.

The tests were very much the wake up call I needed. I am still visiting the Medikent regularly and I cannot praise them highly enough.

I hope the take up is as successful as last year. Well done for all your hard work.

PS. We still have your crutches, give me a ring when you have time and we can sort a hand back out.

Hi Chris,

thanks for organising this again. Like last year I think I will be bringing 3 friends in my car, have already been talking about it.

Could I just ask is it a good idea to have the bone density test again as last year they said I had brilliant bones with nothing to worry about at all?

Thanks

Sue, so pleased to hear that you caught it in time and that your treatment is going well. As soon as I read your post I emailed Chris for an appointment so thanks for sharing your story.

I had my hair cut last week and Naj was asking if I had seen you. Take care.

Hi Jo,

You have made my day by booking an appt with Chris, if my story gets ONE person to do something positive then it was worthwhile putting it on here, and you are that person!

As Chris mentions in her 1st msg: Remember most cancers are curable if detected early. This could save your life and that of your friends so let them all know.

I cannot thank Chris enough for organising this 'event' nor my husband for making me go, between them they saved me a lot of heartache in later years when my cancer would have undoubtedly spread as it was already Grade 3 in its early stages.

I cannot thank Help Those With Cancer Association/Tulips for helping me so much with information on where to go and who to see once diagnosed as I really didn't have a clue.

For anyone else reading this, please consider contacting Chris and booking yourself an appt, as my husband said 'we spend more servicing the car'.

I actually saw Nac and Tash last Thurs/Fri (can't remember which).

Whilst on holiday last October in TRNC my husband and I attended the medical screenings at Medikent clinic organised by Chris. My husband despite being 60, a non smoker and very fit was diagnosed with prostate cancer which was quite a shock to us, on returning home he has since had a biopsy and radical prostectamy and is now recovering.

There were no symptoms present so without this screening the cancer would not have been detected, it is likely that when he would have found out it would probably be too late to do anything positive and would have spread.

From our own recent experience can I please ask that everyone consider the benefits of taking these screenings, the clinic and staff are excellent. What price do you put on your own health.

Thanks Chris once again for organising these, this could be again life saving for someone else.

Yes there can do a CA 125 not sure of the cost but in the UK it is an expensive test so would imagine it will be the same here.

If you e-mail me I will find out for you and let you know.

All ladies who have e-mailed me I have now answered, if you haven't received this check spam! Also if you decide not to go ahead can you please let me know so that I can delete the e-mail and my in box doesn't get jammed. Thanks

I would just like to point out that many women like myself would be checking their breasts regularly but not all bumps and lumps can be felt and to find them in the early stages you really need to have a mammogram or an ultrasound of which you get both on this medical.

As Chris has pointed out, when detected in the early stages - alot of cancers are curable.

Please, please go!!!

A valid point has just been made on another forum. You don't have to reside in North Cyprus to take part in the Womens Health Week, if you are on holiday you can take part indeed if you live in the South it is also not a problem.

Hi Chris,

Can we just go to the clinic and request a CA 125 blood test to be done any time after 14th March, also would my husband be able to request a scan/ ultrasound for Prostrate cancer detection at the same time, as he missed the Mens Health check?

Message 67 Scooby,

My life has been taken over answering e-mails but I am not getting as good a response as last year! i think a lot of people are under the impression that because they went last year they don't need to do it again!!! Not so.

Of the people that e-mailed can they please if they have not booked get in touch even if they don't want the tests, just let me know ,so I can clean out my inbox as it is getting bogged down at the moment. Thanks

Ladies,

I have a few e-mails as some of you are concerned that you have been given appointments for next week and the Health week does not officially start until the 14th. Medikent have decided to take some of you early at the same price to avoid having too many on the same day, therefore allowing more time for each lady if they have any questions / problems.

I went on the one Chris organised for men last year. I would recommend it to everyone . I had twelve tests in all and they were very thorough too. I came out of there with a big smile on my face after being told i was " normal" ! Nothing showed up on any of the tests apart from my cholesterol being a bit high . I had the full works , which i think was 625 lira., but the money didn't come into it . The peace of mind is worth every penny. !

I had two tests carried out Friday and apart from being advised to take calcium and Vitamin D daily forever I have no problems. Both tests were over within 30 minutes.

I was also advised that I should have a Mammogram every year [this may be because of my age] and a bone density test done every two years.

Had I not gone for the tests I would not have this valuable information.

Come on Ladies!!!!

Well done Crofter glad everything went well for you.

We should all have a mammogram every year, the only reason the UK don't do this (unless you are at risk) is down to cost and the same applies for cervical screening! International guidelines for bone density are 2 years as you were advised.

Thank you Chris for organising our visit to Medikent for a full MOT today. We are all very glad we went. It was a long day and back tomorrow for more tests and results. The hospital is very thorough, the patient co-ordinator was excellent and worked hard to keep us on our toes for the various tests and meetings with specialists. I urge all ladies to go along and at least have a basic health check, if you don't go you won't know.

The majority of ladies going are in the 40+ age bracket. If you are under 40 it doesn't mean you don't need yearly checks! If you have daughters who are sexually active they will need a cervical smear as well.

Ladies, I went to Medikent last year full of the "joys of spring" and then whilst having an ultrasound womb examination found that there was something 'not quite right'. Two hours later I was on the operating table, two days later I was recalled as my mammogram was showing as abnormal.................I thought I was going to have to tell my children that I was on the way out!!! A couple of days later I knew that I was alright, a cyst on the left breast and my womb.................well it obviously thought it was younger than it is!!! I was absolutely fine! Tears of joy and relief!! My appointment is booked in already for this coming "Well-woman Clinic" and I would urge all you women out there to book an appointment.................peace of mind..............nothing to beat it!!

Thank you Chris for your work on behalf of the women in North Cyprus.

I still have a few e-mails to answer so bear with me ladies.

Please let all your friends and neighbors know it's only an hour or so out of your day but could put years on your life!

Had a few inquires and e-mailed back to get phone numbers and dates of birth so can you please check your spam if you are waiting to hear from me. Thanks

Chris

p.s. We had almost 150 ladies last year so a wee bit disappointed at the moment that more are not taking advantage!

arrry,

To be honest I have not asked for this to be made a sticky, although I probably should have. Unfortunately i can't foot the bill for this but no need anyway as already 104 ladies booked, so looks like Womens Health week will be over 3 weeks!

It's great to read about the " feel good factor " from folk who have had these tests done . It is a lovely feeling knowing you are not going to fall apart tomorrow !! My 625 lira was well spent , the lowest quote i have found in England for a similar service is .........£1280 !!!! Good value for money or what ??

Clare..........that's great ! I think some people just need a little push ! There obviously is a little bit of

anxiety because nobody wants to hear bad news . On the other hand it is fantastic to hear the good bits ! If certain things are caught early enough then they can be treated so it's important to book up as soon as .

Hi, had mammograme on Wednesday, results phoned through on Thursday, but needed an ultrasound follow-up which was arranged for the following day. Given the 'all clear' at the hospital approx 30 minutes later - what a relief!! Had this happened in the UK I would have waited and worried for weeks. I strongly urge any ladies who have not been checked out recently to do so. This is a very small price to pay for peace of mind and ignorance, in this case, is not bliss. Thanks again to Chris for arranging the health week.

laptagal, message 116. I am very pleased that your mammogram went well and that the news was good. However, I would like to make the point that had you had the mammogram done on the NHS and you needed follow-up in the form of an ultrasound, you would not have been kept waiting for weeks - they would have notified you very early on. Likewise, if anything had shown up on the mammogram or ultrasound that was sinister, they would have told you there and then. Please don't think I am denigrating the service you have had - it is obviously excellent - but sometime the good old NHS do get things right.

Chris - hope you are well and keep up the marvellous work you are doing.

I had a mammogram last week but was recalled for an ultra sound, I had this done and all was well, very relieved to hear it as you can imagine. I have just received my results back and I think everything is ok - the mammogram showed some abnormal tissue but the lady explained that it wasn't bad - but that I should go back in 3 months for an ultrasound - she explained that as I am only 35, the mammogram isn't as effective - so those under 40 are better to have an ultrasound... If there is any history of breast cancer in the family, as there is in mine, it's good to have that information and peace of mind...

Thanks for organising it all Chris and what a lovely bunch of Drs and medical staff at Medikent. Thanks All..

Spanna,

The radiographer was correct, an ultrasound is the better diagnostic tool in the under 40's and if I had been a bit more observant i would have noticed your DOB and advised you better.!

Anyone who has a family history of breast cancer should have mammogram / ultrasound at least once a year.

Thank you Chris for organising this. I thought it was absolutely brilliant! I did enter the hospital this morning with some trepidation - fear of the unknown and all that! The hospital is so welcoming and all of the staff are second to none. It is is a huge relief to learn that nothing serious is going on. I have to lower my cholesterol and blood sugar levels but apart from that everything was "normal" and I haven't heard that word applied to me in years!

I plan to make this an annual event - well worth every lira both for peace of mind or to catch anything early.

Many thanks again.

We went for our check ups yesterday - mine was fine (phew!) but my husband has some problems. Still - it's good to find out now and get something done about it early so very glad we went along. The staff were excellent especially the patient co-ordinator who kept all the waiting to a minimum and was lovely and friendly whilst being super efficient. Thanks again Chris.

Is the Medikent hospital still doing these tests at the prices mentioned above?

I had a mammogram last week, not with the Medikent and I can confirm that the prices offered by the Medikent hospital are very good - less than half what I paid in fact.

Are they still running the tests as I would like to book to have a smear test if possible.

Thanks

Great news Gates, glad all is sorted out now.

I am still getting enquiries so will keep bringing this back to the top for as long as it takes. Now into the 3 rd week as we started earlier. Have taken a few bookings for May as it was ladies who went last year and wanted the tests again (wisely) this year. So plenty of time still to book.

I think it is about time I said a big public than you to Medikent Hospital especially Dr Meliz and Zalife because without them this 'Womens Health Week' would never have gotten of the ground for the second year running.
