Both atendency toward the italian by a few percent but I also like middle Europe and Mediteranean food in general as well as many oriental (as we get them in the UK).

I have a preferernce 70% toward pasta & rice The better half is the other way 70% toward the humble spud

"Humble Spud" unlike here, the UK grows around 80 different varieties of spud commercially.I doubt there are 80 different verities of rice produced in Italy ......... Not so humble perhaps

I lived in Italy for 2 years and loved the food from the very start. If I was to choose a last meal before dying it would be:-

Straciatella alla Romana

Tournedos Rossini (medium rare)

Zabaglione

Double Expresso with a Sambuca

a 1/2 bottle of Bigi Orvietto Secco with the soup

a bottle of Allegrini Amarone with the main course

Then it wouldn't matter whether I went up or down - I would already have enjoyed heaven.

All food.... not just one particular countries fare. Italian food for us has to much pasta , but it suits some.

I like different countries foods, but hubby is strictly a steak man and likes only British dishes ....

Tournedos Rossini, is a "FRENCH" steak dish created by Auguste Escoffier............

Actually it is more popularly considered to have been created by Antonin Careme who was a great friend of Rossini whereas Escoffier only came to Paris in the year of Rossini's death. But it was certainly created in his honour and in the the Italian style, and while I have enjoyed it in many Italian restaurants around the world I have never seen it in a French one. But then I do not like French food so a visit by me would be extremely rare.

I used to love Italian food but my tastes have changed over the last few years. I'm less into pizza and pasta. I'm more into the meat dishes with veg a bit more now like saltimbocca. I was taught to cook a very tasty dish at catering school near venice, it was very thin pork stuffed with sage and salami and cooked similar to saltimbocca. Was very tasty

Tom it refers to a new place opening which will be an italian restaurant. I beleive it will be close to where they live here. Oh I getting so good at cryptic. Linda, Anne is it the old Mascaron. If so they already have a head start. Loved that place x

I love to watch Lidia (Italian Cook) on Fatafeat (nilesat) I think she is from Perugia, anyway, it is just like cyprus, an abundance of fresh fruit and veg and she is an absolutely brilliant, no nonsense chef. I have had many good tiips from her.

No Lilli, not Masceron. Further along between Supreme and Tempo supermarkets. Lots of dark wood being used inside and out. We await the opening but I will still use Mardo next door for their superb cappuccinos.

I remember working in Vicenza a few years ago and eating thin slices of different types of meat you cooked it yourself "hot rock'' style, one of the best meals i've ever tasted, loads of garlic... anyone know the name???

Dermici Msg 34 - Sorry I have just had to work my way through the thread I had not picked up Msg 13 as when over I'm in Lapta. Until Lilli had said it I did not known that there was another Italian opening. Maybe I will try it when next over but I reckon they will have to work very hard to beat Guido in my book.

Not cryptic but I often only scan the last 4/5 posts in a thread before replying - am I forgiven?

My wife and I absolutely love Italian food and were therefore looking forward to a weekend trip to Rome to sample some Italian culinary delights. Unfortunately we must have have picked the two worst restaurants we have ever had the displeasure to eat in, the food was truly deplorable. However, the upside of this adventure was that next door to our hotel was a Chinese restaurant which we tried as we were "Hank Marvin" and, as luck would have it, was probably the best Chinese we have had. Oh well, I suppose every cloud has a silver lining !!

Not put us off Italian food at all, just Rome !!

dizzycows at least we show our e mail addresses!

What we discussed was relevant to the topic as Lilli was inviting Linda and Myself to sample her Italian food. We had answered the question about liking Italian food, that was the title of the thread, so not really off topic.

I like Italian food, but like any dish, its the chef's preparation and presentation that determines the enjoyment factor and whether something is pleasurable to the palatte!

We always enjoy choosing from your menu Guido.
