Don't know if anyone can help, we took in a stray at Christmas, he is only 6 ,months old, pointer cross, the other day he was lifting his back leg when standing still and has totally gone off his food, has not eaten for 2 full days, he does not seem in pain but is covering with his tale between his legs, no loose bowls, not sick and not wincing when we touch his leg, we are taking him to vet tomorrow but any advice would be useful, he just lays and sleeps all day

Wait and see what the vet says, it could be all sorts of things, but I hope its nothing serious. Maybe just pulled a muscle and if he is feeling sore, maybe he doesn't feel like eating. Maybe a temperature, maybe an infection, but its pointless just trying to guess.

maybe a seed or splinter in his foot? If he can't weight bear.......Being a pup, maybe he has eaten something he shouldn't have - bone, or plastic, or something - which is stuck somewhere along the digestion tract - the Vet is the answer.....hope he is OK

It could be that there is a blockage in the bowel, like a piece of bone, or a pebble that he may have swallowed.

one of my own dogs had these exact same symptoms last year with a pebble. I fed her lots of foods that cause diarrhea and walked her till she got a bowel movement....she was fixed in about 4 days....

Is he drinking? My English Bullmastiff was off colour last weekend, and suffered similar symptoms. We suspected she had eaten something in the garden as we have no grass which they must have to graze. After two days she came back to normal. She does eat leaves from the hibiscus trees but that does not harm her.

I urged her to have some milk and tinned fish in oil, which she managed to get down. As she weighs 65 kilos, it was a big worry. We also thought maybe she was constipated. I do hope your dog will recover quickly.

It turned out he has a viral infection which the vet is hoping can be treated with a weeks course of injections, his temperature was 40 so very high, it turns out he got this as he had not had his last 2 immunisation jabs as we were in UK. Poor thing, good news is he ate 2 small bowls of food this afternoon.

No idea, he said this viral infection in young dogs can be picked up from anywhere. He is having to have 3 injections a day for 5 days
